Hi guys. Which would you choose to have, an Evora 400 or a Cayman GT4 and why?

Has anyone had both and how do they compare?

Uh, the Evora GT4 as in the factory race car? I'm not sure what the choice between them would be. If you need a race car, you get the GT4. If you want a car you can drive on roads, you would have the 400. The GT4 isn't road legal/able to be licensed for use on the road.

I driven both on track only. The Cayman GT4 is closest thing that I have driven that is similar to an Exige. The Evora is more like a 911 Carrera, not a GT3. If I wanted a street car, I would choose an Evora. For a track car, I would choose the Cayman GT4. A car for both, I would choose the Evora.

An obvious if difficult dichotomy that I had to consider as well. As a driving proposition it's hard to go wrong with either,. I've never driven a GT4, just a Cayman S. The comparison favored the Louts as regards my taste but somebody else will weight the factors differently.

I think one of the benefits of GT4 ownership has been their strong resale, but that really only works if you don't drive the car. Lately it looks like any GT4s that have actually been driven have come down a bit in price but in my mind Porsche valuations can be odd depending on the model. Porsche manipulate their market with practiced skill.

Which raises the question of value. If you avail yourself of one of the many superb deals available on a 400, you can get a new car with a factory warranty for less than the cost of a used GT4.

But in the end, especially if you actually plan to drive your car, it comes down to what talks to you. It can only be drive and decide for these cars. Asking here is like going into a bar and asking if they sell whisky. You'll only get one answer!

I have never owner either car, only driven a 400 and for me that’s where my money will go. I have always been one who likes being a bit different and to me as great as Porsche’s are, they are everywhere and just to common. Lotus is rare which is good and bad

The huge dealership network and also parts inventory is a huge plus for the GT4 however for me I would still take the Evora.

I have owned both cars.
Toyota engine vs a Porsche engine- powerwise similar but Porsche delivery /sound were far superior
GT4 has a mostly GT3 derived suspension which I felt was superior marginally
Steering- Porsche was superior
Interior/comfort- very similar
Rawness- Porsche
End result - i sold the evora after 600 miles and have a 718 gt4 on order

Thx for the feedback. Did you find the gearing long in the GT4?

I have owned both cars.

I was just on the track with an Evora 400 and a Cayman GT4. I caught/passed the Evora in the turns no problem, though I only saw him the one time. I could mostly hang with the GT4 in the turns but he was definitely faster overall. I was in an Elise with the BOE Rev 300.

Easy decision, get the Evora 410 or Evora GT and don't look back unless you like looking at the front end of the Porsche.

Comparing cars on a track day means zero.
Theres so many variables - car condition / track conditions / tyres / modifications / knowledge of the track ... but the biggest one by far is the driver, not the car. Just because someone is wealthy enough to by 'X' car doesn't mean they know how to drive it well, let alone on track.

I've been to track days where experienced drivers in MX5s & GT 86s have completely out paced other drivers in Porsche etc...
They spent their $$$ on increasing driver experience in a more modest car, not mods or an 'it' car.

In your clip above the E400 driver is not on the racing line and is braking mid-corner - they're focus is on getting out of the way of other drivers.

Look at the clip below, theres no way a well driven Speciale should be hunted-down & over taken by a Lotus Exige. But the Lotus driver can drive better than the Ferrari driver. Its all about the driver!

Yea comparing cars at trac days is very difficult, by far the biggest factor is the driver.

My last track day car was a modified Saab 1988 SPG, passed a viper and was passed by a Honda Civic :eek:)

I would think as Julian73 states, 410/GT is probably more comparable to the GT4

If it were me I would get the Evora because I like strange/rare cars! (owned a Saab 9-3, Volvo S60 R-Design, Exige, etc..).

I also wonder how the Evora compares to the GT4 in expendables/maintenance which really add up when tracking a car. I imagine the Evora ownership should be cheaper in general because it has a Toyota engine...

I will pick GT4 for sure (I have 981 GT4):
- The strut mount issue, none of the Pan Asia race has this issue. :)
- Porsche has replaced a new transmission (factory recall). It feels perfect post and pre recall :)
- The whole car is over engineered :)
- It is half GT3 with 3.8L NA >:)
