So I'm thinking about getting an evora to keep my elise company. I've been shopping around for insurance pricing and it was higher than I expected, even when adding it to my current classic/exotic policy. Best I got was with my current carrier at $1400 for the evora (value$80000) with the elise (value $40000) staying at around $600. That's with 5000 miles for "basically driving to shows. The evora isn't going to be a DD but I'd like to use it for trips so for that they up the mileage to 7500 (still prob more than I'll use it) but with less restrictions on usage, but the cost goes to $2300. I feel like I'm 25 and living in Jersey again....

So I'm just curious on what others are seeing, if this is normal, if insuring it as a regular car is a better way to go or if anyone has anyone other suggestions.

25 and a sports car = insurance companies hate you

Oops just realized you said you felt 25, my bad.

I found my Evora was only about 10% higher than my Chevy Volt in insurance.

The 1400 for 80k value is about the best you will find in the collector car policies. Or very close to it. I've never considered standard insurance. I'm not idiotic enough to pay the premium. Some people have got great premiums from regular insurers. Not me though. And I have a clean driving record.

$700 a year 2 million liability, full coverage, 200/200 deductible. Not sure I pay so little in Quebec, the land of hypertaxation and outrageous overcharge, but I won't argue...

I would say I hate everyone with lower rates but if those are standard insurance then it means the lowered value payout in the unfortunate case of a totaled vehicle.

Well, gap insurance only included for one year, then they replace with a used model same year/mileage or as close as possible. Who knows what will happen if that day ever comes, until then I'll try to enjoy it

Geico, 50 YO $1280/6mos (quoted and added today) on the new 2012. Progressive quoted 1,840. And this is after we totalled a 2011. Was about $60 cheaper before.

Would be helpful if people also posted ages along with their basic info. I would imagine that plays a large part in determining rates.

Wow, Kitty,

Made me look, and I pay $600/year for my 2010 Evora on GEICO, also 50YO (actually 49), wife also on the policy.

Monsta,
Insurance is not a casino, just pay enough to replace kind with kind. I do not expect a new car as a reward for totalling my 4 year used car.

All,
Make sure you have a conventional car on the policy as a DD, so they don't charge the Lotus as "Vehicle #1". We have a Ford Escape as Vehicle #1. Oddly, my other toy 2010 Audi TTS is also $600/year, so it seems they are not setting the "risk symbols" for Lotus as high as they used to.

Too many factors in every state or province / driving record / multi vehicle discount / bundle discount. You can't compare prices here.
Comprehensive coverage (not collision) is on the high side for the Evora.

I'm around 1k a year, as a "pleasure" vehicle . I was also surprised at how high it was, particularly that it was more than my Elise by 200-300 bucks a year
