Hi!

I am designing an Exige version of my radiator exit ducts over the coming weeks. I could do with some images of the Exige without the access panels fitted.

A friend very kindly brought a panel over to be measured but I really needed to see the panel in position and to see what lies directly underneath.

Designing a component to fit the Exige is a very different task to designing it for the Elise as the mesh grille remains in place when the access panel is removed. So I wouldn't imagine it will look anything like the same as the Elise version.


Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

That is what I had assumed. I am just considering whether it is a full duct like I have done on the Elise, or more of a half panel like what is already there where the mesh remains in place, but style it a bit more - similar to the Exige V6 carbon panel. I don't think people will be overly keen to have to remove their clams to remove mesh.

+1 on that. Saw your elise post and was interested, but clam removal/cutting or removing the mesh would be a deal breaker for me.

I hope to have my exige clam off next weekend and will make it a point to snap pics of the underside - and a few different angle of it as well.

personally, cutting the factory mesh wouldn't be a deal breaker for me... and I hope to see how exactly it is bonded to the clam

I have yet to have anyone answer, what purpose does this part address? Is this just for looks?

Yes absolutely a cosmetic part, with added benefit of being less than half the weight of the existing parts. About 1.5kg saving. But they were designed primarily to improve the looks. Just making them out of carbon alone reduces the weight.

the mesh is bonded to the clam. removal means clam off and will likely destroy existing mesh.

if your panel is to cover the entire opening, it is better consider an option to make the front edge of the panel tapered and thin enough so you can install the panel with the mesh in place. also consider having side exiting vents to avoid venting hot air directly into the mohawk scoop.

The intention will 100% be to leave mesh in place and to have something that integrates without affecting performance. This will be bolt on item just like the Elise version that can be switched over/back if needed.

hey. I had my clam off today and as promised I snapped a few pics of the underside of the clam to see how the mesh is bonded...

Thanks for the images, interesting to see Lotus couldn’t come up with a better way to fix the mesh on. It works I guess!
