I got a call from the Collection in Miami asking if I would like to take delivery of a Saffron/Sport/Touring/Hardtop right now. They said my car was still coming in Nov (which probably means December), but a customer had declined this one, so they were going down the list of expectant Saffron customers to see if they wanted to take delivery early. I asked why they just don't put in the showroom for $5K over and he said "We never sell new cars over MSRP, never."

Has anyone heard of a dealer that won't sell over MSRP? Well, it's nice to know there's still some good in the world of car sales.

Oh and btw, I got this call last week and then AGAIN yesterday. I guess no one wants it. Who knows, maybe some lucky bastard will be able to walk in the showroom and pay sticker!

Interesting situation. First, there are plenty of dealers that I have experienced or heard of that will not charge over MSRP. These situations with "hot" cars have occurred many times over the years and there have always been some that will, some that won't. BTW in my personal opinion, I don't think it is "wrong" to sell a car over sticker. We`live in a free market society and no one is being forced to buy a car at any price. Disclaimer: I am not a car dealer.

That being said, I think we are seeing these cars coming to dealers in a reasonable volume and maybe it's not as hot as we think. People are passing on the cars they ordered for a number of reasons. They bought something else, they don't fit in it, it's too intense for them, etc. There have been 9 cars available at one time on Ebay.

I think it will take a little time for the situation to sort itself out, but I am surprised that they haven't found a taker for the car yet.
Keep us posted!

the collection

just bought a storm titanium /red leather/ touring/starshield at the collection
- only waited 3 weeks as this vehicle became available
- dealer - scott rodriguez advised they do not sell over msrp

- they then delivered the vehicle to my house about 120 miles away on a flatbed

- great experience and they get my vote for the best dealer!!

- what a car - pretty cool driving by the $100k mercedes' and porsche's and its them stopping to look at me going by them - not vice-versa

Maybe it was you they were impressed with. George Seigel, you're that famous actor presently starring in the TV sitcom 'Just Shoot Me', aren't you?:)

My theory is that the market has slowed down as people are starting to realize that the car is too extreme for them. There are currently two that have been on ebay for a couple of days with 0 bids. Also it is harder to sell these cars in the dead of winter in colder places. I am sure some on the list are also not ready to buy having budgeted for their expected delivery dates.

best dealer

Well, so far Maplecrest in NJ has been great to deal with. They didn't offer to deliver the car on a flat bed...but that's ok..that just means I get to drive the car the 200 miles home.

I don't see a problem with that.
