Hi!
I´m currently converting my federal spec 06 Exige to euro specification (due to local burocrats, long story..).
So far Exhaust and emission system has been replaced with the euro setup, and the final piece is replacing the federal ecu with a euro ecu.

I have done so, but either imediately after starting the car or after reving the engine a few times, or driving a few hundred meteres on the road.
The euro ecu is throwing error codes which concerns the throttle body ( P0638 and P2104) and the ecu goes into some sort of limp mode where the revs oscilate between 2000-2500 rpm( approx), the trottle has no impact on engine speed.
This happends time and time again(after deleting the codes), I had a look at this thread http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f25/limp-mode-throttle-body-stuck-22639/ and inspected the (DBW) throttlebody and found nothing amiss. I tried the engine again with the euro and no change, the ecu is still throwing codes. I then replaced the euro ecu with the Federal ecu again. And then test the car, and no problem with codes concerning the throttlebody.
Anyone tried anything similar, any ideas?
I have gotten in touch with the lotus dealer which sold me the ecu and they have forwarded the question to the factory, but I´m still waiting for a conclusion. Only thing they were fairly sure about, is that the euro ECU should not be faulty by itself.

Thanks

Hello!

It can be reprogrammed to EU spec ... however this behaviour is not normal.

Where are you located?

Cheers!

Hi!
I´m located in Norway, far from any Lotus specialist ;)
(closest is a 6.5 hours drive away in Sweden...)

You´re not aware of any differences in spec of the cars´s ECU´s that should cause the problem?
So far my problem has baffled both the lotus technitian at the dealership I purchased the ECU from(in the UK) as well as a Lotus engineer (at the factory).
That is, so far they haven´t been able to figure it out)

Cheers

Are you sure different injector sizes won't trigger the codes I have seen?
Running Euro ECU with US injectors would mean the engine running approx 18% richer than it is supposed to?
I don't know how the error detecting logic in the ECU works, but if it reads rich on the lambda which does not match current throttle position/vaccum/revs/temperature it might rise some sort of error.

However I have found no official description of the injectors being different on US vs Euro (I have asked Lotus dealer) as well as seeing it
here.
(Injectors on Federal Exige is not listed as different to Euro Exige/Elise R)

Also you can see from this picture of my engine that my injectors are blue.

Brian, you're totally right but that doesn’t explain the mentioned error codes ...

Surely not caused by the injectors.
That difference is within the range what the fuel trims can take.
It wouldn't be safe / good to drive at WOT but still wouldn't impact the idle or partial load driving with lambda=1.

Well, Norway is not that far away from Germany to get some help, getting a cable shipped ( if necessary) or getting an ECU reflashed ;-)

BTW: check your link again. EURO-spec Exige S has item 06 fitted, other Exiges (US spec and all 240hp up) have 06b.

Cheers!
