Hello all,

Need some opinions on whether this will work...

Basically i am trying to install the scoops without having to:
drill a hole in the body,
drill a hole in the fins,
remove the fins....

Referring to my pathetic drawing below, one way i was thinking was to have 3 x L shaped brackets which screw into the back of the scoop using the original mounting screws. The other half of the L bracket has a hole in it for the cable tie/s. The ties then wrap around the original fins.

To install it you would first tightly screw the L bracket to the scoops, then feed the cable tie around the fins and through the L bracket, then tighten the cable ties by accessing them from the behind the fins.

My concerns are....

Will the cable ties be strong enough?
Will the top front of the scoop be held into the body tight enough due to the cable tie running back to the fin??

So if this method is not ideal any other suggestions??

I noticed another member has made a bracket but I don't think it will work for me with fins still in place...

Thanks

Brendon

Gonna put in the mesh? Generally it glues into the scoop from the inside, before you mount it. If you do that, you won't be able to get in there to do the cable ties.

Even so, you may be able to get all this nice and snug, but not nearly as good a fit as actually bolting them in.

The mesh is already attached...i think by removing the wheel well liners i can access the ties from the back.

Yeah thats what i had linked to and thought would not work for me as I wanted to leave the fins in. I think that may be my best option though. Remove my fins and make a bracket like his...
Ha... sorry about that. I didn't read your entire post.

Drill and be done.

I presume you have seen my install about the side ducts. Drilling gives you the best means for attachment. It may seem scary to drill, but who cares. These scoops will be on the car when you eventually decide to sell the vehicle. Do you really expect to ever remove the side scoops? Make an install that will be structurally sound for the next owner as well. I do not worry about my installation moving at any speed, considering the pressure of the location. It's an air intake under a lot of force and the lower factory bracket is quite nice.

Well i have decided to make brackets that drill into the original fins instead. When i took the original fins out i didnt like the hole that was left above the scoops when you open the door :S
