^^^yep, the developer needs to pay the officials from the top to bottom to get the construction permit and their company annual license. So there is not much money left to construct the building so they have to mix more sand than concrete and buy cheaper steel (lower grade).

All the naysayers about the Saleen1 may be right. All I can say is that the Saleen guys spent lots of time and money to race at VIR this past weekend, and they transported the prototype to the track to show it off. And they had Sales guys there to talk up the prototype. Were they doing it solely to create positive spin for future corporate funding efforts? Maybe. Nevertheless, to me it looked like they were actually trying to create interest in the car. If this prototype never comes to fruition, it'll probably have more to do with the world economy, than Saleen's fiasco in China. You have to admit, the idea of another (think C8) US-made driver's car is compelling.

Beautiful looking car, but aero design has evolved since it was penned. Their ability to execute and stand behind such a car is questionable. I'd love to see it come to fruition. Rooting for Saleen, but not holding my breathe.

They were DEFINITELY doing it for positive spin, no doubt about it. Probably told the sales guys to hype it up, even though there is honestly no intention of this ever making it to market. Just think of the new Griffith from TVR. Unveiling in 2018 and still nothing. This is the same thing. And if Steve is involved, I just wouldn't trust him. And IF, and it's a BIG if, it actually came out, and they do use CF and aluminum, there is no way they will be able to sell it for $100K. They'll say it will be but when the time comes, its gonna get a LARGE price bump. To me this is vaporware (and I wish I was wrong, but I'm not).
I humbly disagree. With capitalism the politicians are bought and sold by the ruling class. The 99% have no political power and are being fleeced on a daily basis. Capitalism always results in a plutocracy.

There is no perfect system, but the fact that you can write what you did is just a small example of the great system you're taking for granted. Let's not take what we have for granted because that's exactly how it gets taken away.
In no disrespect your opinion, however, if you live in a communist for a few years, you will understand and view capitalism differently. I believe you are comparing capitalism to utopia, and that’s a different story.

China factory seizure fiascos aside, my brother did some research on the S1 in 2019, spoke with someone at Saleen at length about the car, and sent them a $1000 deposit check to await a build notification. Tubs were supposed to be Chinese-built and carbon bodywork was supposed to be US-sourced. The motor was based on Ford's 2.0/2.3L ecoboost, but Saleen told my brother they designed a new block because they weren't comfortable punching out the Ford blocks to 2.5L. Single large twin-scroll turbo. Saleen did build and field perhaps a dozen S1 Cup cars in 2019 and I think there were four race weekends. The idea was the car would eventually become GT4 eligible. My brother waited several months with no acknowledgement of his deposit or update from Saleen, and finally requested his deposit back in 2020. They returned his original uncashed check.
It appears Saleen are trying to reanimate the project here as the Saleen 1. Their website is soliciting "investors" (minimum $500, thank you). I wish them well, but to date I've not heard how/where street S1s would be serviced or even if they'd be warrantied (something I'd want in a $125k street vehicle purchase (eg Cayman GT4, Lotus Emira).

I also looked at the S1 several years ago. I got the deposit form, talked to the staff (not Saleen himself). The staff was not able to answer basic questions about the prototype configuration (things you could tell by simply looking at it). The deposit form did not list any delivery requirement or refundability. I tried to fly to LA to look at the prototype, but it didn't work out. I would have been making a deposit with no assurance of refundability or delivery. Which is what I told them in lieu of my $1000.
