I'll be in the vicinity on Sunday. I signed up for the Spokes autocross that will be at a new venue, the San Marcos Airport. You can see it from the clubhouse at H2R. It's off Hwy 21. Stop by there if you have time--I'll be there all day.

Here ya go Chili... I'll get you the data via email so you can show me how bad my lines and speeds are. Only got up to 108mph out there.

Oh, thanks for the pointers James. Helped alot. Will probably help more once I get comfortable with the track.

Ok Brian Im going to give you a critique and its going to be rough only because I want you to get faster. You really did a good job though as I know this is only your second outing at H2R. Its an extremely difficult track to drive well.

1 - You can carry a good 10-20mph faster through that corner. Around 93-96MPH is a pretty good speed. Just be safe as I dont want you going off here, work your way up.

2/3 - Not doing to bad here, looks like you could be on the power sooner as your not getting anywhere near the outside edge of the track.

4- You have near perfect. Only suggestion I have is make your shift from 5-3 instead of going 5-4-3.

5. Seems you have an odd line through 5 and your not getting near Apex which is taking away your ability to get on the throttle sooner.

6. You have the line down perfect, now you just need to increase the speed. You should be able to work up to full throttle all the way down the straight.

7. Entry looks fine, not really sure why your not tracking out here though. Your loosing a ton of time at Exit by not tracking out.

8. Enter more towards the center of the track. Entering from the outside doesnt really buy you anything in this corner. You can carry a bit more speed in as well.

9. is fine, just need to work on carrying a bit more speed around there.

10. I see other people taking that line, but Im now converted to thinking the traditional line around this corner works better. Star from all the way at track edge, turn in around the cone and make a nice arc around the corner. It may be a bit slower through 10, but it gives you faster exit speed and a faster time through 11.

11. Nothing to say here...

hehe, thanks. I know I suck. Still not 100% comfortable with the track. Once I am I can work on the lines alot more.
It takes time to get the line of this track down well. Ill post up some video here in a bit so you can see how I do it.

OK here is my video. Best time in this video was 1:26.436. I did pull a 1:26.075 earlier in the day, but the video accidentally got turned off during that session. I do have all the traqmate files though. The most impressive thing was my worst lap time for the day was a 1:26.8.

BTW, I think the track was a bit slower than the last few times Ive been there. My data tells me grip levels were about the same, but I could tell I was down a bit on power due to the higher temperatures. If I can make it out on a cooler day I think Ill defiantly drop down into the 1:25's. I however don't think they car is going to get below a 1:25.5 without making modifications to the car.

My 2 cents

Brian,

Dang, looking really good out there. Even though you did not ask for it....

I'd say turn in a bit later on Turn 1 and carry more speed, also get nearly on, but not on the inside curbing.

I'd try 4th gear in turn 4. You have the power and torque at the low end and it will force you to carry more speed. Same for 5. It will also eliminate the 5-4, 4-3 shifiting. You are doing it pretty quickly, so it's not bad. When you do it, (if you double clutch or not is optional) keep you hand on the shifter and shift down through the gears, no need for the extra hand movements on and off the wheel, IMHO.

One thing I've learned in the Miata is that often you can carry a higher gear through a turn and it forces you to carry a bit more momentum / speed. Driving H2R in 4th gear in a Miata is a learning experience on momentum driving for sure.

Free advice that's worth exactly what you paid for it...:)

Yea, I was playing around a bit with the 5th gear. Was making sure I didn't over-rev in 3rd is all.

As I told Chili, just not comfortable enough out there yet. I was the same way with Cresson, speed and consistant lines came after I was comfortable with all the corners on the track. Just takes me a few times. I'm a slow learner...

Im going to disagree here a bit and say you should be all over that inside curb. You probably get a good 8-10 inches of extra track by using the curb. A good portion of the time Ive got part of a tire hanging off the curb a bit. Im really surprised I have not taken the cone out yet.. :D

I do have to say turn 1 still scares the crap out of me, I could probably still go a good 5mph quicker through that turn. Fastest Ive recorded was 96 at apex. Last few track events Ive been closer to 90-93mph though.

Since Ive looked over my data now Ill make a few notes here for you guys. I changed up my line a bit in 2 corners from last time I was at H2R.

I started coming out a bit further to the left after turn 1 (across the blend line) to get a better shot at turn 2. I ended up being a bit slower through 2/3 due to this, but I was a bit quicker down the straight as I lengthened the track a bit. The bottom line was I did not make up enough time on the straight to compensate for the time lost in 2/3. I would probably stick just to the left of mid track for entry into 2 as it was about 1.5 10ths faster.

I saw geezer doing a bit later turn in in turn 7 so I figured Id give it a try as well. Normally I turn in around the beginning of the curb on the left side of the track, he was turning in about 15-20 feet after that. For me this line ended up being a bit slower as well. Seems there is not a long enough straight after 7 to make up for time lost in the turn. For some reason the later turn in seems to help geezer but hurt me.

On March 27th I'm going to Jason Harts Driving school at H2R and we are really going to break down the track and figure out the fastest line. Hopefully Ill be able to break into the 1:25's at the point. Im so close I can taste it.. :)

You're right about 1 - I *have* knocked the cone over before, BTW ;)

On 7, the later turn in works for me because turns 8 and 9 are essentially a "straight" for me as, if I do it just right, I can be accelerating that entire length of track. If I had to brake for 8, even just a little, I suspect the shorter physical line through 7 might be preferable.

My data seems to back that up. As I found out the hard way, I need to brake at turn 8.. :D

Do I have to be a member of Harris Hill Road to sign up for the Jason Hart driving school?

Just send Jason an e-mail telling him you want to be in the class. Its $300 and food is provided.

I think you coulda made it - you were REALLY close. Maybe try entering 8 wide so your entire arc through the turn is shallower.
This is something I'm going to bring up in class with Jason and see if we can find the fastest way through 8 in my car. Im also considering changing my line through 9 a bit. Instead of hugging the curve all the way around Im going to try and be out about a car width so I can make a straighter shot and 10 and extend my braking zone. Right now Im having a hard time getting the car down to the speed I need to turn into 10. If I can extend the braking zone I think Ill be able to carry more speed through 9.

Really there is only 2 places that I see myself making any decent gains and that is growing some balls and going through 1 faster and going through 9 flat out. Still maybe only 4/10ths between the 2 turns.
