Those rear defroster wire attachments all fail due to heat, but our engine is a vastly superior defroster so I just cut tehm, pulled fuse and am done with it. Would NEVER use anyway.

I just received my louvers, HK they look amazing.

Does anyone have tips for getting the window off without damaging the wiring harness?

If I was doing the louvres I'd just take my car to an automotive glass place and have them use the proper wire tools to remove it cleanly (they use a pulley system that attaches to the inside with suction cups.) Was having my windscreen replaced on my other car and asked the guy to have a look at the Evora's rear glass, and he said it was "dead easy"

If I did them I'd make it so either glass or the louvres could be swapped out easily. They'd be secured with removable brackets on the inside.

My advice, after having a glass place chip my rear hatch, is to have them shatter the rear window to remove it. There's two beads of adhesive attaching the window at the top and there's wiring in there that can easily be cut. The cost of a new rear window is $253, the cost of hatch repair and paint matching is much higher.

Just pulled a rear window out of my charger, Get an over sized sewing needle and some 24lb fishing line. Thread the line through the needle and cut when you have two equal lengths about foot or foot and a half, us needle nose pliers to push the needle through and use something round to wrap the line around and is very sturdy, on the other side, cut the needle out and wrap the line around something and take your time and go around the window. Taping the window and foot or so, so it does not bounce out.

I haven't gotten around to installing my louvres yet (savoring the view I guess lol) though I thought of using this pierce&pull corded method when I do. The only catch is I think I read or saw somewhere that there were two rows of beads at certain areas so it might actually not be possible. I also thought of the sharp spatula method to cut the bead instead.

Finally got to install mine last week after my car was at the dealer for a month! I had to make some improvised sand bags (held in place with automotive masking tape) with gallon sized Ziplock bags to get all sides of the CF cover to seat properly while the urethane cured. I used a urethane by 3M that fully cures in 3-4 hours fwiw.


This is the only pic I have right now. Some guy in a nice Vantage parked next to me at Lowe's, so I had to snap a photo.

This may sound crazy,

I could not find anyone who would remove the glass for a fair price. Some just said I will do it for 700 and most likely break the glass. I went to a Safelite dealer drove up and a young guy ran out and said cool car..this should be easy and 150 bucks. 10 min later his boss came out and said oh too much liability it's going to be 600 bucks and we really don't want the job anyway because we make our money via the replacement.

I purchased a few hundred dollars in tools but they did not work due to the way the window was glued in using a double bead. I decided that it was silly buying more tools..paying 6-700 dollars for a pro to do less than an hours work and most likely wind up with a broken window anyway. I decided to use the best tool for the job! I carefully taped up all paint surfaces around the window, placed several large moving blankets under the hatch, taped up the back window in thick duct tape and let my bib ball peen hammer go to work. It was out in 2 min and after a bit of cleanup around the glue I was able to carefully pull it away from the hatch.

I wish I had just did this from the start.

I used an automatic center punch. Entire window fragmented instantly & quietly. Obviously, measures were taken to protect the paint & engine bay as well. Shop Vac came in quite handy as well.

Ok even with the Ripcord and correct tools I found it impossible to cut that F Ing thing out. :mad: So I taped it up covered every part of the car and smashed the window. I found this therapeutic and effective. Once that was shattered I broke away all of the glass and simply cut the rubber with a razor blade. Don't judge me :facepalm

In the end still cheaper than what the shops wanted, and they said most likely they would break the window as well.

Will install today
This made me chuckle. I'm debating on doing this just so I can break the window :wink2:

Does anyone know the weight of the tailgate before taking the glass out?
I have the rear louvre but am now considering replacing the whole thing with a cf ducktail from ck lim and wondering how much weight will be saved.
