I dont think anyone's asked this yet - so I will.... whats the dillyo with the legality of yellow headlight film in the grand state of No-You-Cant-Do-That We-Know-Best Maryland?

Everytime I see an ALMS race I dig the yellow film on the GT car headlights... Any legal types out there know the rules fro MD?

thanks!!

I'm not sure the exact wording of the law, but i think its illegal. Usually though cops will not pull you over for this but if you get stopped for something else..well..good luck.

A friend of mine has it on his '86 911. I'll ask him. I think he mentioned something about it being okay on his car because of it's age ... but that doesn't totally make sense to me. Is an '86 historic? Maybe so -- maybe that matters.

In Maryland "Historic" plates are available for vehicles that are at least 20 years old that haven't undergone major alterations from their original design.

"Street rod" plates are available for vehicles that are at least 25 years old that have been significantly altered from the vehicle's original specifications.

In either case, the vehicle must only be used for activities such as antique exhibitions and parades, and not for routine driving

In the MD Code under Transportation, 22-203(b):

Equipment on motor vehicle.- Every motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, shall be equipped with at least two headlamps with at least one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle, which headlamps shall emit white light and comply with the requirements and limitations set forth in this title.

I think that pretty much sinks yellow covers. Then again, do you care? There are probably 20 other laws relating to cars that you ignore pretty much every day anyhow :)

It would be a reason to get pulled over for an Inspection Citation. Similar to, do I dare say it... no front license plate

The big question is why in the world would you want to put colored film on your headlights - the Elise/Exige is notorious for poor light output in the first place, tinting the lights is only going to make it worse.

I got ticketed in PA for tint on my headlights. Note, you will attract a LOT of unwanted attention doing this...
