make sure the coolant tank is topped up and you should be fine

Mike

What kind of coolant do we use? Working on mine right now.

Edit...got my answer...Havoline...at Walmart. dont know if they have any there..but will go look.

Second...I was just about to cut the heater hoses and I decided to put this off till either later in the month...or next year over the winter.

Reason is that I am concerned about the warranty issue...my luck and I would be the one to get tagged on it.

Second...I want to make the LOONY breakfast tomorrow morning and I dont know about the bleeding. I dont want to get stuck.

Third.....I am driving down to the 50th Seven Event on Friday and I dont want have any unnecessay problems on the 15 hour or so drive.

Fourth...I am chicken. Here I have built 3 Caterham Sevens...and been working in Lotus cars my whole life. Working on this car makes me nervous. I cant see the front bleed screw. Maybe I am missing something.

Do it tomorrow afternoon. Grow some sack, good lord man!
Seriously, it is not that big a deal. If you don't want to miss breakfast, than wait, but to wait a year is just a seriously lack of cajones.....

Ok rant off. Enjoy! rotfl

I installed HIDs this afternoon. I really dont want to miss breakfast...so that is the big reason. We get so few days in Buffalo...like the one that will be tomorrow.

I will give it a try again when I get the chance. I am going to be busy for a while with a new Lotus project and my business.

Did mine today. All I have left to do is pull the radio and route the wires under the dash.

I can not find my radio removal tools...still looking.

If you can't find your radio removal tools, check out this thread on how to make a set using a coat hanger.

Found my tools. Now I store them in the tool roll. All done. I drove the car for about 15 miles without the HVAC controls hooked up. I now have finished it and will try the car tomorrow.

What was the insulated tubing for? About 3/4 inch in diameter. I did not put the insulation on the right angle plenum. Comments?

Quick Question...

I did the update on Sunday/Monday. Worked on Tuesday and had no chance to drive it today.

I am leaving with it tomorrow night to drive down to the Tail of the Dragon.

How do I know it is all working right? Is the valve operational...ie in the bypass mode....when it the knob is pulled out?

What should I look for in the way of problems? How do I know if I have a problem. Car seems to be running at the normal temp for the 15 min I drove it before I put the HVAC controls back in. I got very little air out of the bleed screws. I used some hose "clamps" specifically designed to clamp down on coolant hoses to minimize loss.

Thanks ...

Ok....just got back from the 7's 50th reunion and I did not take the Elise. Well I got back and just took it out for a test drive.

I seem somehow to have the temp switch reversed. When I go all the way to the left...it is full hot. Right....cool.

I could swear I did not screw up the connections....I had them labeled...but I must have.

Does someone have the correct wire connections to the new push/pull switch?

thanks

Hey! saw some posts from you over on the Elan forum. I'm thinking of a Zetec upgrade for by baby Elan. It has an early Spyder frame. Any thoughts??

According to Spyder...you cannot put a Zetec in an early Spyder frame. They quoted me like $25000 to buy the parts necessary to do it...Right!

Sounds like the wires are switched on the pot. Looking at the 3 terminals, swap the wires between 1 and 3. that will reverse the potentiometer action (swap hot for cold).

As I recall...the wires were red...pink...white. I will swap the red and white...

Mine just stopped working....I am going to have to get in there and figure out what has gone wrong. I noticed the difference right away on the Lotus Rendezvous. We have been getting unusually hot weather for Oct here in Buffalo NY.

Last year at this time we got our earliest snow/ice storm ever. It hit on Oct 12. This year it is in the 80's.

Do you mean the kit or the A/C stopped working.

I've had excellent results with mine. If it's the kit, Tony will know how to fix it.

When I pull the knob it no longer shuts off the flow..but I beleive I have power to the switch.

I am SO SORRY if this was taken as a negative comment. I did not even think of that it that way. I know Tony will give me a hand if I need it. I was just posting....like I was talking you you all...you know...garage talk.

This is an excellent mod and I have even bought 2 from Tony. One for a car I dont even have yet. I know I will be buying my son and partner oamn Elise within the next year so I bought one early.

Mine has just stopped working and the change that this kit makes is so dramatic that, like I said, I noticed it right away.

If something broke...I will use a part from my extra kit and ask Tony to send me a new whatever. I might not get around to figuring out what this is till next week or so..

My bypass has not been working since the fall...dont know where the fault lies yet...but I do know there is power to at least the heater knob....push pull switch. I have not had time.

I had to drive my car to Auto Europe 2 times last week. Wow...what a difference with out the damn bypass.

I was sweating all the way there and back. Did not want to use the AC so we were just getting constantly hit with hot air. We even shut the vents. Did not help a lot.

Let me repeat that the reason it is not fixed is because I have not had the time....tony has offered to do whatever he could to help me. I have not had the time. All I know is that when pull the switch, the arm does not move..

I checked the voltage where it connects to the valve and I got 12 volts. I then hooked everything back up...started the car and I see the lever moving when somebody pulls the button. To be honest, I never tried looking at it with the engine running, so I was not getting any vaccuum. I just forgot this works on Vaccuum.

I dont remember the "click" I hear now however...I now hear the click of the solonoid or whatever that is.

So unless the valve inside is broke, I assume it must have been a loose wire.

I will try it later and see if the heat goes away. Will let you know.

As far as I am concerned, I would have really considered selling the car if this mod had not been researched and done. I just could not take the heat. It is just a "hot" button of mine. This is just so unnessary of a problem.

Perhaps it is because I came from a Caterham and was always hot..and I was just tired of it...or perhaps it is because I told Lotus this was a very big problem back when I drove one of their evaluation cars. I noticed it right away.

The heat was really getting to me and I just did not like driving the car. It ruined the enjoyment for me.

I even bought an extra one in case I get another elise for my son and partner.

I cant find it right now!....but it is here somewhere.

Sorry to be all business here...but if Tony does not want to do this...I would be happy to for a small profit to make it worth my time. I love doing this sort of stuff and have the time. All I need is to have tony give me a list of the parts and other info.

This is a great mod and I would be happy to keep it going.

I already suppy the rear window protector...and the Sachs shocks. I am working on a removable rear window. Just one more product to the mix.
Please...I am not trying to steal anything from Tony....but if he does not want to do this I am willing to pick up the ball.

I also donate a portion of all my Lotus sales to the LOONYs. Helps pay for our website.....

Edit...I tried to pick up the ball for the jacking points sold my Tesprit with his permission...but we did not get enough new takers to make it feasible.
