Well, he and I just put one in my Elise this past Wednesday. I would imagine that if a group got an order together, he might assemble and ship out the kits. I don't speak for him, though.

The mod works, though. I'm pleased with the results. :clap:

What kind of coolant do we use? Working on mine right now.

Edit...got my answer...Havoline...at Walmart. dont know if they have any there..but will go look.

Second...I was just about to cut the heater hoses and I decided to put this off till either later in the month...or next year over the winter.

Reason is that I am concerned about the warranty issue...my luck and I would be the one to get tagged on it.

Second...I want to make the LOONY breakfast tomorrow morning and I dont know about the bleeding. I dont want to get stuck.

Third.....I am driving down to the 50th Seven Event on Friday and I dont want have any unnecessay problems on the 15 hour or so drive.

Fourth...I am chicken. Here I have built 3 Caterham Sevens...and been working in Lotus cars my whole life. Working on this car makes me nervous. I cant see the front bleed screw. Maybe I am missing something.

I installed HIDs this afternoon. I really dont want to miss breakfast...so that is the big reason. We get so few days in Buffalo...like the one that will be tomorrow.

I will give it a try again when I get the chance. I am going to be busy for a while with a new Lotus project and my business.

Did mine today. All I have left to do is pull the radio and route the wires under the dash.

I can not find my radio removal tools...still looking.

We did mine without pulling the radio. Not sure where you're placing the switch, though. I put a small toggle in the little under-dash tray bulkhead--just to the left of the steering column cowel.

Found my tools. Now I store them in the tool roll. All done. I drove the car for about 15 miles without the HVAC controls hooked up. I now have finished it and will try the car tomorrow.

What was the insulated tubing for? About 3/4 inch in diameter. I did not put the insulation on the right angle plenum. Comments?

Quick Question...

I did the update on Sunday/Monday. Worked on Tuesday and had no chance to drive it today.

I am leaving with it tomorrow night to drive down to the Tail of the Dragon.

How do I know it is all working right? Is the valve operational...ie in the bypass mode....when it the knob is pulled out?

What should I look for in the way of problems? How do I know if I have a problem. Car seems to be running at the normal temp for the 15 min I drove it before I put the HVAC controls back in. I got very little air out of the bleed screws. I used some hose "clamps" specifically designed to clamp down on coolant hoses to minimize loss.

If you have someone cycle the switch, you can see the servo actuate the bypass when its energized. You probably didn't lose too much coolant -- keep an eye on the res.

You'll know its working when you run the blower (no A/C) and the air from the vents is the same temp as ambient--not ten degrees hotter. When you run the A/C, it will actually cool the car. You can tell...

Ok....just got back from the 7's 50th reunion and I did not take the Elise. Well I got back and just took it out for a test drive.

I seem somehow to have the temp switch reversed. When I go all the way to the left...it is full hot. Right....cool.

I could swear I did not screw up the connections....I had them labeled...but I must have.

Does someone have the correct wire connections to the new push/pull switch?

Sounds like the wires are switched on the pot. Looking at the 3 terminals, swap the wires between 1 and 3. that will reverse the potentiometer action (swap hot for cold). As Michael said, you can tell if it's working by 1) watching the valve (it should close - vacuum pot lever pulled in) when the switch is pulled out, 2) the ambient air temp should come through the vents if you keep the new switched pot in the "out" position (allow some time for air to cool down if you're switching from hot to cold). You can have someone watch the valve when you move the switch in/out to see the valve operate.

Hey! saw some posts from you over on the Elan forum. I'm thinking of a Zetec upgrade for by baby Elan. It has an early Spyder frame. Any thoughts??

According to Spyder...you cannot put a Zetec in an early Spyder frame. They quoted me like $25000 to buy the parts necessary to do it...Right!

As I recall...the wires were red...pink...white. I will swap the red and white...
