Hey everyone,

Just signed up for this forum today. My name is Mike, upstate western NY. My father had a red Lotus Esprit back in 1987 when I was all of 7 years old. I am a Lotus fan to this day, but my weekend fun car isn't a Lotus, it's a DeLorean! :D

Looking forward to spending time here, and hopefully meet some Lotus owners in the western NY area.

Nice and welcome. I assume you know about the Lotus-Delorean connection?

Yes, though truth be told, I didn't know until after I had purchased my DeLorean. I knew fairly little about the cars before I bought mine, so I got really lucky that I picked up one as good as mine.

The similarities between the 80s Esprits and DeLoreans are pretty neat. When I was looking through some old family photo albums, I found a few pictures of my dad's 1987 Esprit. The rear view of the cars is quite close, as well as the over-all shape. Even closer in resemblance are the interiors, though the DeLorean came with either gray or black, no tan. But, seeing as Giugiaro had his hand in both, not too surprising. :D

I believe Esprits also used Bosch K-Jet at some point, correct?

I would like to own an Esprit at some point, but it is at least a few years down the road. I'll be looking at a few different sports cars at that point, and if I can find a good one, an Esprit will certainly be stiff competition for the other candidate cars.

Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner handy to show any pictures of the Esprit that my father owned, but if anyone is interested I am putting a link to my Flickr photostream of my DeLorean below. The first two pages are pictures from the Bricklin/DeLorean convention last year, so I linked to page 3.

This is probably a long shot, but are there any Esprit owners in the western NY area on here? I'd like to meet up once car weather gets here again so we can check out each other's cars.

The real similarities are under the skin, aka the backbone chassis. Lotus developed the two cars side by side. Ill try to dig up some of the Lotus photos of the prototype handling mules they built for DMC...

I have more on my other computer...

Edit: Here ya go, picture of the Delorean being developed next to the Esprit...
