Hello all!

This is my first post. I've been an Elise fan since the first gen and I was so excited the first time I saw one in London.

I'm a regular autocrosser and occasional track day attendee in my '06 Miata. I good friend of mine has left his '05 Elise in my possession for the next month or two (and I'll be maintaining it of course) so I figured I should show my face around here and learn all I could about "owning" an Elise.

Welcome!

My jaw dropped the first time I saw one as well. I managed to wait over a year before I bought mine.

It is good to be the kind of friend who can be trusted with a car like this.

Best wishes on being with us, and look for the "uberpost" - lots of info there.

Yes, I was all over the uberpost. It is quite helpful. I looked to it for oil recommendations. I have two "to-dos" on my list and one is an oil change (the car only has 73xx miles on it!). I'm leaning towards Castrol syntec as they have it at a tuning shop for a reasonable price. The car is only occasionally autocrossed, so I don't see the need for redline which is what I would put in it if it was tracked regularly.

As far as driving it goes, it's spent the past week in my garage unfortunately. The rear AO48s are worn to the cords. So, clearly, my first "to-do" is get some new ones on there. I just ordered replacements which should be on the car by Friday latest. Then it will be driven. Don't worry :D

Drive it like you stole it! :shift: Just make sure you don't leave any "evidence" on the ECU dump...

No, no, no, when caring for a lawyer's car you definitely don't "drive it like you stole it."

I don't have any pictures of it in my possession, but I might be able to find one at an autocross of my friend driving it. If I can't find one I'll snap a few once I give it a good cleaning. I've already done the interior but am waiting for the new tires before I wash it.

For those that are interested it's a 2005 AS touring and sport packs, and star shield.

Here's a link to a shot of the car with my friend (owner) driving it during an autocross.

New rear AO48s should be in today and hopefully on the car this afternoon so I can give it a little exercise. Alas I can't wash it this weekend or drive it since I'm attending my first rallycross (obviously not in the Lotus or in my Miata). I can't wait to play in the dirt though!

Yes, after my stint of "ownership" is over with this one I'm happy to help anyone else out with a similar problem.

I think in the last couple of years there have been a couple of forum members who have started threads along the lines of, "I let my buddy baby sit my car for a couple of weeks and got it back totaled."

I may be misremembering.

A poster I know from another board had something along those lines happen to his Elise. He let a friend take the Elise out for a track day...and well, the Elise never came back. :(

Nobody said I was paying for these luxuries. My boarding service has options, such as tires and oil, just like at a kennel, where you pay extra for play time or doggy ice cream and stuff.

Oh, and lending an Elise for a track day is nuts. I won't be tracking or even autocrossing this one while I have it. I'll likely have it when we have our next local autocross, but my '06 miata will do its duty then. Besides, I need to win another class championship, and if I start the season in the Elise then I'll need to drive it the whole season...

So I had the new rears mounted today, which means I finally got to drive the car. I forgot how sweet it is.
