Hi! I'm new here and am slightly excited (to say the least!) to learn more from the folks on here who know more than I do about the Elise. Got to ride in my friend's 2006 Elise and I was hooked!

Looking forward to getting involved in the discussion!

hooked eh ?
Welcome! When I took my first ride I was obsessed until I had my very own!
Welcome from Calgary Jamie. Where are you located? Note that unfortunately the Elise can't be imported to Canada from the US, so there tends to be a significant price gap.

Hey Stu. I'm in Montreal. And sadly, I know that. It might be the one reason that I may have to forego an Elise.

Have you ever known anyone who actually got one across the border?
No, don't know anyone that imported one, even for track only use.

There have been a number of discussions in the Canada section of the Forum regarding importation, with excellent info from guys who have done it. The short answer is the Elise, Exige and Evora cannot be brought in for road use. Esprit and various vintage Loti that are old enough can be brought in. My 2000 Esprit was originally a US car, although I didn't import it. Note that the importation process does cost some dough in fees, transportation, sales tax, etc.

If you get interested, would suggest contacting Bernard at Scotti and see if he can contact you when they get inventory in on trade. I didn't buy a car from him, but discussed a 2009 Elise he had extensively. He was excellent to deal with; I just ending up going with a locally available Esprit instead. I think Elise I liked was sold to a list member in Toronto and he was happy with the whole sales experience.

Although further from home, I am sure Weissach in Vancouver and Gentry Lane in TO would do the same for you.

Other than the three dealers, AutoTrader Canada seems to be the best advertising venue for used Elise'. Shift Motors in Burlington seems to list used Elise' regularly there.

Good luck in your search and welcome to the madness.

+1 for Bernard at Scotti.

I bought my Lotus from someone in Ontario, and went to Scotti to check with them what it looks like in term of maintenance and see if there were any Montreal / QC lotus owner club.

He told me I should have got in touch with him before buying my Elise. He knows a few customers that might sell their car, but just don't advertise for it.

Also, if you are very serious about buying one, I would definitively give him your phone number. He might find you the perfect car for you :)
Thanks a lot, guys. Chouch, I will PM you if I need the number.

:)
Chouch and Jamie1, I'm also in MTL. Definitely see Bernard at John Scotti, although most of the Elises have been snapped up by Shift Motors in Burlington ON I think. There's ALWAYS someone on Kijiji selling an Elise every Spring or Summer, so keep your eyes open. Also consider the Evora - not as insanely fun, but pretty close and much more liveable.

If you guys want to start a Lotus Club, I'm in. There are plenty of Lotus people in Montreal. Bernard does events and more than 10-15 show up at each event, sometimes 20-30.
