I looked all around my city to find a store but had no luck. So I measured and ordered a medium Bell Sport SA2010 helmet online from Saferacer. I got the helmet today and tried it on. I need help to know if you think I should exchange it for the Small. The helmet slides over my ears kind of easily. Once my head is in, it fits good at the top and around the sides of my skull, but the cheekbone area is loose. It can wiggle easily from side to side, and allows the helmet to move up and down a bit too. I assume I should return it for the Small, but I was concerned since it fits well everywhere else. What do you guys think?

When you wiggle the helmet up/down and side/side in the mirror, does your skin on your forehead move with it? Is it the type of helmet you can order bigger cheekpads for?

It's tough ordering based on measurements alone because everyone's head is shaped differently too. There is a chance the small size would be too small for you, and if that's the case, then your best bet is to try different brands.

Below the sizing charts on this page, there is some good info on how to size a helmet:

it should be almost headache painful until it breaks in... it should not easily wiggle. it should be so tight so that it is squeezing your brain the first couple hours of wear...

i wear an extra small... but its right in line with the bell head tape measurer #.

the check areas are not very tight, and thats ok - its the "skull" fit. - the hard foam does "break in"

It definitely isn't on very snug like that at all. I can turn it about 2-3 inches to the left and right without my skin/face turning. The Bell doesn't have larger cheek pads unfortunately. I'm thinking that this will break in and become even more loose.

When it gets wet with sweat, it's going to be even more loose. If in doubt, go smaller. It will eventually conform to your head. If it's really uncomfortable, try a different brand.

Definitely too large then.

I tried on a Stilo helmet in large and it was just way too big. When I tried the medium, it was so tight that I didn't think it would ever break in enough, so I didn't buy it. Sometimes you have the misfortune of falling between sizes for a particular brand, in which case, you have to move on. I ended up with an Arai for this reason.

PS: Sometimes wearing a balaclava can affect your helmet size, but it still sounds like your helmet is too large.

Ok cool, thank you for the info guys. Very helpful as always, and I will return it and try the small. I have a feeling that'll be just right once it breaks in a bit.

Balaclava WILL affect fit somewhat. ~1/4-1/2 size at most.

y'all have small heads :). I would definately get a smaller one from your description. I had to exchange a suit from saferacer last year and they made it painless.

I ran into the same issue with my pyrotect---I have an oddly shaped noggin--massive back head for lack of a better term and really narrow face...luckily I can order thicker cheekpads. But my movement wasn't quite as extreme as that-it doesn't come off my head and my forehead and cheek skin moves if I move the helmet, just a touch more than I'd like on my cheeks, so I'll be replacing the pads. The top of my head fits perfectly in the upper portion of the helmet. With a balaclava it bulks up and fits better, but I would definitely go for more snug than loose.

but the cheekbone area is loose
Then as others have said it's too big. I have the opposite problem, I can rarely find helmets big enough for my bulbous head. Last one I tried was the Sparco 700 in XL and the Stilo GT4 in XL, neither were big enough.
