Hey everyone, Hows it going! So Im new to the lotus scene, and cars in general, im more of a tech/gamer (I make my living off playing games) but the ascetics of the Lotus Elise are like nothing else. I recently was able to test a 05 Elise and found myself to enjoy it. Currently Driving a 2010 Carolla S, now looking to purchase a Lotus Elise/Exige, I live in California, and look forward to some of the meetups after I get my new ride!

I'd like to tell you now, consider a 08 or newer elise because of the supercharger, or an Exige. Cause one day you will get a ride along in such car and you won't care for the non supercharged version. Since you are in nazi Germany, excuse me Cali. You won't be able to add an aftermarket on..

I sorta disagree and think this is incorrect - that said I don't live in Cali so I'll have to defer but don't plenty of people run the Katana and Rev300 kits and pass CARB? I think there is no reason to start with an SC car - especially given the added cost - if your'e coming from a Corolla. Yes, Ked is right the additional power is great but a SC Elise is only 220hp vs 190hp. Yes, you can tune it but that's additional cost too.

If your budget can't stomach an SC car go for a '05 car now and see how you like it and how long you keep it. These cars aren't for everyone, most people own them about a year until they find their forever owner. You may fall in love and own it forever. You mean realize it's a rattley, noisey, hot, uncomfortable little box that no one can see. Then again you might just realize it's the best driving street car that's possibly the best ever built.

Do your homework, there is a ton of great information here. Ask specific questions and you'll get very specific answers. First up - what's your budget, $20k, $30k, $40k? There is a big difference in the cars you'll be looking at based on that answer.

@rosscarlson Thanks for all the tips. My budget is under 40k. Most of the ones i have been looking at to be around 30k for a 05 Elise. 30k is around what I plan to spend. However if i find something amazing i don't mind adding in more. Here is one that I am slightly interested in, has some extra miles on it, but it is SC with some extras what do you think of this one?

Sorry - I have to completely disagree with this rather uniquely American point of view that more power is necessary for enjoyment. I have been enjoying my 156bhp (Rover engined) Elise for the last seven years :) - I love the steering, the brakes, the handling, etc... and for the record I have driven the supercharged cars too and they are fantastic... just not essential for driver enjoyment :)

The Elise SC doesn't have an intercooler so it will suffer from heat soak. On the other hand you'll be able to see out the rear of the car.

I would suggest you do a lot of research before you make a decision.

You do know that your Corolla and the Elise/Exige share the same motor, right?

I've never owned any vehicle that I didn't want to make more powerful. I can't even imagine having 1/2 the power I currently have in my Exige (not stock). I am American so maybe that's my problem.

That car looks great - obviously owned by an enthusiast given all the mods to it. In terms of miles I wouldn't get too hung up on that - condition is more important in an Elise.

BTW - is the vehicle in your avatar real or virtual? :)

Same ad is available on lotustalk for sale section. Sometimes owners make a slightly better deal to other members. Whatever you pay, plan for a higher budget for insurance and service consumables compared to normal cars.

you can certainly add F/I in cali... you just need to pass smog once every 2 years. either by tune or other means.

@Aedo thanks for the tip, for me this car purchase is more about the aesthetics. As far as my avatar it is a modded Hummer H1 Chassis to look like the "Warthog" from the Halo video game series
