Some sort of internal spline. It's hard to tell the shape from the low res images, but it looks a little like the dreaded VW/Audi "tri-square".

These are also known as "tuner lugs". They are probably nuts; only VW and BMW are silly enough to stick with lug bolts.

You get 2 special extension tools in the toolkit - the wheels we have in the UK have the bolts recessed by 1" or so more than that.

You get one normal tool and one that fits the locking wheel bolt.
