hey guys, I'm bored and have a random question. My car has been at SCC for a while and I was wondering how often is TOO OFTEN to check up on the car?

I know it would be annoying and weird to ask for an update daily, but I've only asked maybe about 3 times in the month it's been there.

I hate to bother people about that kind of thing. In my head it seems best to relax and let the company do it's job but I really want to know how things are going, and I'm missing my car haha

Any of you who have had work done to their Elise, how often did you check in with the shop?

thanks.

Only person who has worked on my car is TJ at Gator MotorSports (and when he was at Lambo/Lotus of Chicago)

He sends out daily updates and sometime pics (matters what he is doing) without having to ask him.

I’d base it on any time estimates they provided you if any. The delay could also be based on communication between the shop and the insurance company. You do not want to bother them too much, but if no time estimates have been provided I would think once a week would be fine. Maybe the next time you speak with them you ask if they could send you progress updates to ease your mind.

I lived right by the shop that did work on mine so I would stop in every 3 days or so.

In this day and age of iPhones, no reason the manager guy there couldn't snap a few pics and text them to you every couple of days. Takes a matter of seconds.

Why don't you get a timeline from them and put that on your calendar? If they said all the parts would be there by May 6th, call the 7th and check to see if they got all the parts.

"I'm just calling to make sure all the parts came in as expected by the 6th"

vs

"So, is there any news yet. How are we looking now"

that's good. They've already dismantled the car and have started the fiber glass repairs in preparation for the full re-paint.

I'm just anxious I guess and don't want to bother people, but I NEED to know what's going on :D

I've been going through the same thing. Problem is, my shop sub'd the work out to a fiberglass shop and won't tell me where the car is or how to get up with that shop. I think they are just trying to maintain "middle man" status so I have to use them again in the future rather than going straight to the fiberglass guy. I keep getting answers like "I've not talked to him in about a week, so I'll call him next week."

now that would annoy me. I don't like dodgy answers like that. Luckily each time I've requested a picture or update, I get what I asked for.

I just know how annoying it can be to have someone constantly asking you for updates on a lengthy project.

In a perfect world I'd get daily updates, but with the amount of customers a repair facility sees daily, I'm sure it would get old sending updates to every customer every day.

every hour, on the hour would seem excessive to me. Beyond that, go for it!

Here is my sob story, I waited a year to have work done on my car by a shop that promised the world on scheduling. Weeks turned into months, months turned into over a year. It really tests your patience. Tell the shop you have an event and it needs to be done by XXX, do they have any concern in completing by that date?

No they have no problems completing it by the estimated date. I spoke with Henry and as always he was reassuring and helpful. I just miss my car.

Driving a rental nissan versa just isn't the same! I couldn't imagine a year. I've kept it to about once a week with my questions. I'm having Lotus withdrawals...

Had had work done at BOE that was a few weeks duration. Phil updated me with either or both emails, photos or phone calls every day.

I was doing the same thing, constantly texting or calling him and seeing what the update is on my elise. Mine is there right now as well. The last update he told me was the rear clam will be in, in 3 weeks. It'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and no word on anything. I kinda just gave up and im just waiting for a call, Since I can't really do anything to speed the process up. I called him back asking the status every other week or so. And I thought I was being annoying so I basically stopped, until he calls. I'm in the i dont care mode, right now, cuz I'm mad its been in the shop for a very long time, and I can't drive it. But once it's all finished I'll be one happy camper.

A good shop updates you and you feel like you are in the loop, without you needing to "check in". A crappy shop doesn't. Simple as that.
