The reason that I ask is that I will be tracking my car soon, and just before I bought it 2000 miles ago, its oil was changed to Redline 5w30 synthetic from the recommended 5w40. I realize for street driving it doesn't matter in the least, but should I be safe and change it before pushing the car hard? I would prefer to change it afterwards to get rid of the abused oil.

Probably not.
You can check with redline tech though.
Viscosity is misleading with synthetics anyway.
You want the lightest viscosity that won't leak out of the engine.

And you may want to set the temp as high as possible.
Even redline works better at higher temps.
A friend gained 10% power at 260 degrees, carefully monitored, of course.
