Probably a stupid question but I am trying to figure out how to open the engine lid of an S1 Elise. This is a 2000 Elise, and as opposed to the S2 Elise, there is no regular lock on the lid, and as far as I can tell, I did not see a handle like the one on the S2 Exige. What am I missing?

There is a cable - the handle is in the rear frame of the drivers door on RHD versions (I imagine it is the same for LHD).

I have had the end of the cable brake on my s1 and I was able to release the hood by removing the driver rear tire and wheel well and just reaching in and pulling the slide, keep that in mind if things get ugly.
