Never tried to lay a patch, just curious what would happen if I turned off traction control

That is why I have my Dune Buggy. Wheelies and burnouts. I have the Elise for the twisties. Sounds like you need another toy!

Like the dumb immature child I am, I locked it up one day and smoked the hell out of a set of tires. Luckily nothing adverse happened, but I'll never do it again.

You certainly can. I only did it once in the elise....sort of by mistake. It was less impressive than my last car.....a Shelby Cobra replica with a big ford V8 and 295 rear tires.

Lack of torque and light weight is never a good mix for burnouts. Add semi slicks and you won't exactly be winning any competitions.
TC off and dump the clutch - it WILL wheelspin. You'll barely be able to hold it on the brake before it hooks up though. And don't be surprised to feel the back end hop/axle tramp as the tyres grip.

Gotta love Lotus... they sure know how to keep a car gripped up.
