Call Francis at aSPEC Products. His direct extension is 103. He was able to offer me a set of Craft Square mirrors with black bases (a $60 option) for $575 shipped. Here's a shot of the black base plates:

The silver ones are included though I don't know why anyone would want them since there's no silver on the car other than fasteners. The bad news is that there's a 3-4 week wait because Craft Square's US distributor is out of stock.

DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation with aSPEC other than being a happy customer.

Everytime I see a picture of the Craftsquare mirrors from inside the car it appears as if part of the baseplate extends over the side windows, allowing you to see the backside of them. It looks pretty sloppy, as if they weren't meant to attach to this car and were simply jury-rigged. Can anyone confirm this or am I just seeing things in pictures? I really like the look of the actual mirrors over the Raceview mirrors but the bases on the Craftsquare ones just don't look like they fit the geometry of the door right.

You just don't understand why there is the overhang. lol

There is a set screw inside there so you can adjust the mirror and tighten the stalk. Otherwise you'd have to remove the entire mirror to make adjustments.

I've never seen the Craft Square in person, but I can tell you without equivocation that the raceVIEW mirrors are absolute garbage. I ordered a set and promptly returned them. Check out the back of the mounting plates:

Note that the bolts are askew. That's not because they mount at different angles. It's because the holes are so large that the bolts are leaning. Think of a pen in a coffee mug and you'll get the idea.

I was assured by the vendor that my issue was an isolated case. I ran into another local Elise owner and he had the same issue, but his were mounted to his car. I asked what he did and his solution was epoxy.

If what you say is true, I'm still comfortable with the Craft Square product. I'd rather see a little of the backside rather than deal with the aggravation of taking the existing mirrors off, finding the new ones don't fit, replacing the old ones, having smoke blown up my ass by the vendor and learning that the easiest way to mount them is by using adhesive. YMMV.

I never knew that before. Function tops form for me, so it looks like i'll start leaning towards the Craftsquares again. If theres an actual practical reason for the overhang thats much much different than simply being aesthetically unpleasing.

I'm not saying the CraftSquares are a work of art, but they look worlds better than the stock mirrors in my opinion. lol

I was wondering about the fit myself when looking at this thread - http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f92/craftsquare-mirrors-pictures-tips-56484/
Very nice comparison pics of old vs new by J. Salmon btw. You just can't make out the set screw as in Amarao's pic.

Chris,

I'm sorry for the bad experience with the raceVIEW mirrors. Yours were defective and we promptly attended to your return. We have sold many of them with no quality problems. I'm sorry to hear another customer experienced an issue. We did not hear directly from them - otherwise we would have attended to their problem.

The Craftsquare mirrors are nice but expensive. We will continue to offer them as well. FYI, fitment is not always perfect with these.

I can confirm this. The geometry of the craftsquare doesnt quite fit on the lotus door as perfect as it should.
Maybe someone should make it right and sell them to us. Group BUY!!!!!:p

Has anyone used the SPA mirrors besides Perry? How hard would it be to mount it to the stock location? And also how is the quality and visibility compared to stock and Craftsquare? Am I the only one that just doesn't like that triangular part of the mirror of the Craftsquare? In my opinion the Raceview and the SPA looks much better because of no triangular part. I won't get Raceview because I heard the quality is not that great.
