Well, not in a colonial ruling way as in the past, rather being the new owner of Jaguar/Rover.

"Cup of 'Indian' tea anybody "

Ford likely to announce Jaguar, Land Rover sale March 26
By TOM KRISHER • AP Auto Writer • March 18, 2008

Two people briefed on the negotiations between Ford Motor Co. and India’s Tata Motors Ltd. say the automakers could announce an agreement for Tata to buy Jaguar and Land Rover as soon as next week.

Ford spokesman John Gardiner said Tuesday he can’t comment on the talks other than to say Ford expects to announce a deal early this year.

But the people briefed on the talks say it could come next week, probably on March 26. They say details are still being worked out.

The people asked not to be identified because the negotiations are private.

Ford named Tata as the preferred bidder for the British automakers in January.

Haha, I've been following this for a while. Its rather ironic that the epitome of British luxury is now owned by an Indian company. I just hope they make some good decisions and restore the brands back to their original grace and glory.
Atleast i cant say "Its a Ford!!" now.

Recently I had a series of discussions with Earthlink Reps from India. It was simply terrible. I've been seriously considering ending my contract with them after 7 years because of it.

Go India :D

No more ironic than Ford owning those companies, given the former colonial history of both the USA and India, but I hope they do better with the brands than we did :D

Really, USA was a former british colony? I did not know that. Given that I slept/missed HIST 101,109,110 and Cynthia (god bless her) did my papers, I didnt even have a clue.

I say, give the brands independence, give it back to the English (and i think TATA is going to do that)

As far as history goes, I never really focused on terms, I just learnt all the dates (I passed !!) This is how the history is in my brain, Columbus came and fought all the native indians and other people started coming in then (I only reason I know about native indians is the casino episode from South Park, everything else I weaved together myself  (i didnt do high school here)

Considering that the Chinese government hold enough $$ in cash to buy up a chunk of Wall street's top 100, I don't think this is really newsworthy.

TATA, Is that a toy?

India actually makes cars? What a concept….
I guess my wife's dream of owning a Range is going to be over rather quickly, I am not buying no $60K Range made in India specially named TATA, that sounds like LEGO. Although I must admit India makes pretty good phone tech support...rotfl

Dont assume that Land Rover Production for the world is going to shift to India. I believe part of the deal is that manufacturing remains in England.

It will also be interesting to see if Ford retains partial ownership the way the Aston martin deal was engineered.
