Is there any difference between what Sector111 is offering and the Manly inserts?
Looks like the ones on Sectors site are a tad bit cheaper.
The Sector111 SPORTinserts are rebadged Powerflex inserts. I can only guess they changed the name for either marketing reasons, or because they were asked not to compete with Powerflex UK's US distribution company with an identical product.

But none of that matters, you just want to know what they're like. I only have my rear SPORTinsert/Powerflex inserts installed right now.

Increased vibration: There's been more vibration at idle, not entirely unlike a gently oscillating massage chair. It goes away after about 900rpm. There is some extra resonance in the car body between 1.0k-1.5k that shows up in my in-car camera, but I don't actually feel it.

Shifting improvement: oh my, what a difference even just the rear insert has made to my shifting experience. When I get the RPM timing right on a shift, everything clicks together in a VERY rewarding way.

Exhaust feels deeper: Probably because you can now feel some parts of the vibrations that before we could only hear.

I'll get the front one in too one of these weekends.

The Powerflex "Street" motor and tranny mount inserts were my favorite mod on my MINI Cooper S, so I'm going to give them a shot on my Elise. I've always been fine with the shifting in the Elise, but I love how solid the drivetrain to chassis connection is with the inserts on the MINI. I'm curious how they will affect the Elise. I'll post my thoughts when I do it.

just ordered the power flex inserts, I'll post a review soon, Exiges .com owners had nothing but get things to say about these and price is good.

I just installed some Manlys over the weekend and have put about 3 miles on them.

Holy crap, I think I turned my car into one of those paint mixers at Home Depot. My steering wheel is a blur at idle, it's shaking so violently. At idle (1000-1100 rpm) every body panel seems to resonate. It's actually louder in the car at idle than it was previously on the freeway. Above 2000 rpm, the vibration goes down substantially, but doesn't totally disappear.

Shifting and throttle response feel no different at all. What is different though, is how the power feels transmitted through the clutch. As soon as the clutch begins to grab, the car begins to move. It's hard to describe, but the car feels much more connected as you use the clutch.

I'm very tolerant of un-street worthy cars, so I'm going to live with them for now, and just go back and pick up any parts that fall off. The vibration makes the car feel that much more raw. I know it's completely in my head, but the car actually feels faster now. If you're looking for imaginary horsepower, this is probably more cost effective than an air box or exhaust.

Doesn't sound right at all, I'd double check your install. Although, from earlier in this thread, what is the outside air temp? Colder could mean stiffer mounts which could increase the vibration and they also tend to settle in after 100 miles or so.

I agree with Mr. Know. I find that there is only a small insignificant increase in vibration. I notice it most on the initial rev start up. I've had Manly Mounts on for about 7000 miles and have been very happy with them.

+3 on what Mr Know and Albert (300hpMR2) said. I don't think anyone that installed these ever reported paint mixer like type vibration even in cold weather. So please double check your install. Also, i notice your signature says salvage title(depending on type of salvage title), does that have anything to do with your abnormal vibration?


FWIW, and I'm not trying to bash the Sector111 SPORTinserts or PowerFlex products, their inserts may have nothing in common with my findings since they may be made differently and/or from a different material compare to my inserts. With that said, my original design back in early 2008 also have the flat exterior surface, very similar in appearance to Powerflex/SPORTinserts. see attached pic below. But I feel there were room for improvement in terms of vibration transmitted at idle. Although the mold for the flat surface inserts were much cheaper and easier to produce, we scrapped it for the more expensive tapered design for production because it produced a little less vibration at idle. That was the only difference we found for the flat and tapered design. all other performance aspects were identical other that that.

Going ahead and ordering Manly's, Sector's mounts have been on back order for a while and I can't wait another two weeks.

I hardly notice any vibration. Maybe I've gotten used to the Manly Mounts. When I first put them in, I thought this is how the car should feel.

I too installed the Manley Mounts a few weeks ago. The install procedure is pretty straightforward and the new mounts fit very well into the voids in the stock mount.

It was helpful to have a floor jack to use on the engine to help position the through bolts. It was also helpful to have a vice to press in the new urethane bushings into the mounts. The OEM rubber mount (rear) was a bit "sloppy" with excess material making that one harder than the front.

Another point of advice. Please double check the torque settings as there were some conflicting settings between Manly's instructions and those from S111 on a similar part.



When tightening to 66 ft-lbs per Manly's directions I sheered one of the rear mount bolts. S111 shows 38 ft-lbs for the same fastener. Replaced both rear bolts and tightened to 38 ft-lbs with red Loctite.

Regarding feel / vibrations.

(1) Vibrations were very harsh right after install, but have since "settled in". I still get a vibration through the chassis at about 1k RPM. Since idle is below that - the vibration is not noticeable at idle.

(2) Shifting feels to be more precise and the delivery of power feels to be more connected (as expected).

(3) Matching revs on down shifting feels better now too (not expected from prior reviews).

A datapoint: I installed Manley mount inserts in May 2009. About 6 months ago I noticed it was harder to get the car in 3rd gear during a particular hard accelerating tight corner at the track. When I pulled off the undertray to change oil what did I find? The mount inserts had disintegrated. I bought new ones (Manley) to replace them. FYI the actual motor mounts are still in perfect shape. Shift issue gone. I am not sure "how long" these inserts are meant to last. I can only say I didn't like replacing them. lol

Thanks for the post. I'll check mine. They're old also. Haven't really noticed a shifting issue or maybe I got used to it. lol
