I saw the midnight screening last night at ArcLight, Jon Favreau and RDJ were there attending that screening.

This movie rocked. Period. I suggest everyone go see it, even if you were never into the comic book (I wasn't). The movie had plenty of eye candy, great one liners from RDJ, and oh my god the TOYS! The suit is the obvious one, but RDJ's house, garage, cars, plane, etc. etc. etc. just made me realize how miserable my life is rotfl Plenty of Audi R8 porn in there if you love that car, there was one scene with the R8 and the Rolls driving to get to their flight that was hilarious.

Oh, and stay for after the credits, you won't want to miss this.

Rotten Tomatoes rated the movie at 95%

I've been debating whether I wanna see it or not. Not a big fan of Iron Man, but I do like Robert Downey JR. I may go see it. I'm still waiting for The Dark Knight...

I enjoyed it. I really didn't have very hi expectations, but thought it was worth seeing. Better than Superman, not as good as some of the better Batmans.

Tony Stark owns a Tesla, R8, Saleen 7 and an AC Cobra.

well - i am a big bob layton iron man fan - and i just can get over how bad the trialers look. seems like a step up from daredevil, and that was one of the worst movies ever made - i am just to skeptical that it will be standard fair holywood schlock! whos rdj? do they go into all the tony stark character flaws and physical weekness's that made the comic so compelling? i think the first 2 x-men, and even more so christopher nolans batman have set such a high standard. and as an iron man fan - i fear i have too many expectations and will be hugely disapointed due to my pre-conceptions on what iron man is and is not. based on the review here - i am deffintly not going now - because iron man was never as much about the suit and the toys (special effects). tony stark should be so distraught over iron man that it drives him to alcholism and self destruction, and only his narccisitic traits that drove him to become the idustrial powerhouse tony stark in the first place can save the man in the iron suit. dark human drama!

It doesn't explore Stark's alcoholism and depression so much as his mid-life realization of what his purpose in life is. I think the darker side of his character occurs after he dons the Iron Man suit for a while, no? At least that's the impression I got from Wikipedia. The movie is far too early in the timeline to start going into that. The movie does capture Stark's hedonism and narcissism very well though, RDJ is perfect for that role.

Since you were a fan of the comic, the movie certainly won't honor the original script 100%, but it sticks very close to the Marvel Universe. I won't post any spoilers but let's just say the names of certain Marvel-related organizations, along with hints of War Machine's appearance in the sequel, come up in this movie.

I do have to admit that in terms of exploring the character's emotions, it doesn't do nearly as good of a job as Batman Begins, but in terms of recent superhero movies, Iron Man ranks right under Batman Begins for me. Trust me, this is no Daredevil, Ghostrider flop.

i agree that the movie probably wont go into the dark side of tony starks character....most if not all the marvel characters had deep rooted problems.
as far as the first 2 x-men.....hmmmm, they took a lot of liberties with the characters and strayed pretty far from the comics...(like portraying wolverine as a loveable, likeable, dude) good movies overall though.
christopher nolans batman? u can keep it as far as im concerned. i wont bore anyone with the details why, but i didnt care for it. i am looking forward to the new batman movie though and ill probably enjoy it.
back to iron man....the chicago sun times gave it 4 stars. i believe the issue tony stark wrestles with is the morality of making war machines....seems like every movie has to have some sort of social/liberal message.
to me, the best comic hero turned movie was spiderman. they pretty much nailed the character head on. unimaginative hollywood writers dont have to work too hard taking what is an already great story and making a movie out of it. the first spiderman, and much of the second were ripped right from the comic book pages.
hopefully they didnt ruin iron man.

i try not to nit pick movies apart....something of this nature is supposed to be entertainment. let it entertain.

To consider a movie a flop, doesn't one have to expect the movie to be good? :p

Last year was a terrific year for great cinema but this is looking like a terrific year for good fun movies.

Iron Man
Dark Knight
Prince Caspian (my least favorite of the 7 books but I'm excited about all the Narnia movies)
Love Guru
Get Smart (if we can get past The Rock)
Speed Racer

BTW, Jeff Bridges plays a significant role in the film and it's nothing like The Dude, His Dudeness, or Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

It was a good flick. It's much better if you don't watch the trailer ahead of time, as 80% of the action and wisecracks are in the trailer.

After credit scene? Damn it! I hate it when I miss those. Now I'm going to be wondering what the heck I missed. Ugh!
That ending clip will be on Youtube in a week or so anyway.
