Over the past week, I've had 3 X-band radar hits...from Ohio State troopers none-the-less. A friend of mine has noticed the same thing too, all from the OSP. I haven't seen X in use even the smallest podunk Ohio towns in years - most all use K or Ka. So are they bringing it back since so many people leave their detectors in city-mode? I even had X disabled on my 8500 in the S5...not any more!

Alot of municipalities still have their old X band guns and as long as they pass the calibration tests, the officers can use them (and with great effectivness) if they want. Overall I think the actual X band penetration is under 5 percent nowadays ( a few cities here in IL still have some in service...)

I hope that's not so in Cali. I have X turned off on the detector. Got tired of listening to it go off for no reason.

It appears to me that X band never really left the SW OH area and would feel significantly at risk  if I ever disabled X band. I am seeing more and more laser use though , so I have to stop procrastinating on getting a laser jammer, though I am so familiar with my routes, I know where to look for traps.....I keep my V1 in all bogies mode and deal with only a few false alarms.....:shift:

In CA this weekend, the CHP are using alternative radar (not K or KA) I drove past one yesterday standing there with his gun and not a sound out of my Escort.

Not sure if they are using laser to X.

Drove past that Sacramento speed trap too (under I-80 business 80 split?) in my Passat. Not a beep from either my Bel 980 or my 8500, which were both running, but I believe that the gun the officer was using was Lidar, and if he was picking off people in the fast lane, it's possible that no beam ever touched your car.

But yes, the newfound love for Lidar in CA is pissing me off. Now your detector goes from being a useful too to telling you to pull over about 30 seconds before the lights actually come on, since you know you're going to get a ticket anyway. :panic:
