ROME -- The car being used in the latest James Bond film plunged into a lake in northern Italy while being driven to the set.

Producers say the driver of the Aston Martin was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. They say James Bond's iconic car was being delivered to the filming unit in heavy rain on Saturday morning when it went off the road and plunged into Lake Garda.

Italian state TV has shown footage of the smashed, black car being hoisted out of the water.

"Quantum of Solace" is the newest film in the 007 series. It stars Daniel Craig and is due for release later this year.

From the look of the crushed roofline, the driver is very lucky to escape with minor injuries. On the other hand, he probably will be looking for a new job...

is that a DBS? Damn that one had a pretty short life span.
The Bond cars were all custom made from Aston Martin specifically for the movie. There were 20 of them made, which is why the report is pretty misleading. The driver was provided by Aston Martin as well... I don't know if he'll still have a job though.

Just saw the movie last night. It wasn't the best Bond, but very entertaining. The first scene with the DBS is amazing. Arclight Theater in Hollywood had the Bond DBS out front (although it probably wasn't the same one that plunged into the lake).
