I am still high from all of the excitement. There are indoor facilities locally, and I am not putting them down, they are an absolute blast, and a different experience from this facility, but there is something about driving outside under the sun, and in the sprinkles, and in the overcast... Something about driving on actual tarmac instead of polished cement... It was to put it simply "Awesome'!
We set it up so that we would all have One session to warm up, One session to qualify and One Session for a race. Each race was JUST long enough. I never felt like "wow that was short". Nope, I felt fulfilled with the length of each session. And the course was FAST and it was STICKY! The times were all in the :31 - :45 range. Some of our novice drivers started in the :45, but by the end of the day dropped to the :34 range. It was like a spec Miata race, there was someone to race with all over the entire field!
Typically we had between 8 & 10 cars out there at once and the mix was perfect, Once we had 15 cars out at once and it was fun, but slightly chaotic and VERY busy. I don't think the corner guys could keep up with the course carnage (cone and barrier placement/clean-up) because there were sections that were... messy... for a lack of a better term. But that was actually kinda fun too!
We had a "finally" which was sort of "invite only" and consisted of the fastest 9 drivers of the day (it was an additional cost, but "discounted"). It was a TIGHT group. The first 5 drivers got in the :31 range and were separated by 4/10 max. The next 2 were in the :32 range, a :33 and a :34. We even did a warm up lap and a standing start race. It was AWESOME! The "strangers" were gridded behind me, and unfortunately they liked to bump. In the start in turn 1 I was bumped and spun

which seriously pissed me off... so I cought up to them bastards and passed my way back to where I started!!! I got the 6th fastest time but based on my 20 laps, I received the 3rd fastest average time of :36.245, the next closest was :36.409... I RIPPED my way back to that group!!!:nanner2:
Seriously, If you are in the DC area, go to Summit Point Kart! SPK is absolutely one of the best experiences I have had in a while. It was racing, period.
I will be planning another soon. If I have enough interest, we will rent the place and set up a bracket race and go all day (which is pretty much what we did anyway).
Next one I plan will have to be after July since I am booked with vacations and track events for the rest of the month.
SHEW!
They are open 7 days a week for arrive and drive. I am not sure what they do if the Shennendoah is booked, but I am sure they will set you up somewhere.
I saw them snapping photos. Maybe they will surprise us with some track day images? Who knows!
Check it out,
SUMMIT POINT KART
ENJOY!
