In the LA Auto Show section, Edmunds.com states the following

"For the sports car purist, there is a lightweight version which deletes the A/C and stereo and knocks $500 off the price."

2004 LA Auto Show

Is there any truth to this article? It is dated 12/29 but their photos are outdated.

Yes. It has been posted before that Lotus intend on offering a lightweight version that removes the A/C and the Radio (at a min) and knocks $500 off the price. A date was mentioned around fall, 2004.

me personally I want the A/C. If I want it to be a little bit lighter, I will go on a diet. That is the best weight loss for my car.;)

I dont think it will make that much of a difference.

FWIW, A/C is around 35 pounds.

Stereo can't be more than 5 pounds I would think.

Not sure what else they may think of removing.

I could stand to lose 20 pounds - I'll start working on that right now - probably be about right by the time the car comes in.

I'm also thinking about driving naked except maybe driving gloves and shoes, of course. The car would be worth it.

BTW - it occurs to me that who needs INTERNET PORN when we've got the explicit Elise pictures and discussions posted on this Forum? Not me............LMAO

Just my opinion - I could be wrong.

If you're planning on driving naked, then the A/C theoretically wouldn't be necessary, correct? I mean, top off the car in the nude would cool you off quite fine, I'd think. Definitely don't get the leather seats if you're planning on this, though. Especially black ones!!!

Excellent advice transio - hadn't thought it through. That's why we come to this forum for the experience of others who have been there and done that.

I guess I have a nice advantage at around 120 pounds :D

Do you think this will really make a significant difference in performance?

Being smooth and fluid around the track makes you quick with good lap times. Drivers education would make you far far quicker than the wt difference.

I was at the auto show today and overheard this question to the head of Lotus US. He indicated that there was not a plan and timeline for this year, but it was something they might do in the future. He acknowledged that it had been reported in one of the car magazines, but it was not correct.

I will be taking Phase 1 and 2 at Evolution Peroformance Driving School next weekend. I was just wondering if the weight would help (assuming there is a good driver behind the wheel).
