Lotus made their GT40 development proposal to Ford with a design that, after being turned down, evolved into the Europa (lucky for us 😀). The Lola Mk6 GT was Eric Broadley's winning pitch and Ford used it for early GT40 development.

After that the original Mk6 prototype was shoved aside and eventually Broadley sold it to Allen Grant, who was an engineer/mechanic on the Shelby team and also drove the Cobra Daytona Coupes at Lemans, Daytona, Sebring, and other races.

Never thought I'd get to see a Mk6 in person since only 3 were built, but went to a GT40 celebration at the Simeone Museum (RIP Dr Simeone) and that very car was there....still owned after 57 years by Grant, who was one of the event speakers. Super nice guy and beautiful car.

They even fired it up and drove around the back lot along with several historic GT40's, including a J-car, and numerous modern Ford GT's. Quite an impressive gathering of vintage V8 horsepower (plus some modern day V6's), and such lovely sounds...:giggle:👂
