Another great Lotus Cup track event at NJMP! Thanks to Sports & Specialist Cars and Lotus Cup as well as all the other sponsors for holding a fun track day at the Lighting circuit at NJMP. For those of you that were worried about the weather........it was absolutely beautiful and not a drop of rain (see, I told you Millville has it's own weather pattern). A number of new people and some of the regulars.....we all had fun and more track time then you could want......

Don't miss the next one!

A few photo's from the day. Video to follow.

How does the time attack work?

Are there any official results from the time attack?

I wasn't able to make this event but hope to be there in Oct.

Full results will be posted shortly.

The time attack is a time trial where you get two hot laps to put in your best lap. We have five classes to compete in and you earn championship points based on your class finishing position.

Great pics Glen!

I drove down from NH to check out this event and will be back for future events. The commute sucked! I left NH at 4:30pm and didn't roll in to the hotel until 1:30am. I hadn't counted on the amount of traffic and night paving.

I am glad I wasn't driving as I only managed to get a few hours of sleep.

Pulling out of a rest area on the Jersey Turnpike I saw Jonathan in his Bordeaux Red Elise just ahead of me. When we got held up in late night traffic we pulled along side each other and he said, "I think we're probably going to the same place." This was around midnight and I was spent so it was good to follow him in to the hotel.

I had emailed Robbie and he said that it was fine for me to spectate and get a few ride-alongs so I showed up to see some old contacts like Glen and Robert (from British Racing Group) and to meet some new ones.

Glen was kind enough to take me out for the first session and boy did the ride deliver! What an introduction to NJMP. He is an amazing driver and his Exige is the hottest I've seen. After the session the first thing I did was look at his tires. I was sure he was running slicks but he had just shown me what A048s can do.

Next up was Jonathan. As a grateful passenger I didn't want to talk but a few corners in to the first lap I had to ask, "Does this have a supercharger?!" No, just naturally aspirated and another talented driver.

After lunch I went out with a gentleman in an orange Elise SC. I believe he said he was from Reading, PA. I forgot his name but I won't forget his precision. He was using the whole track like my instructors always tell me that I should. There was one particular cone that he couldn't get closer to without hitting it. Each lap he put the wheels right at the edge. I was impressed but his precision and consistency. I also learned a cool relaxation technique. As we came down the front straight of the Lightning circuit at the fastest and straightest point of the track he would lock his thumbs on the wheel and splay his fingers. I like it and will try it next time.

I finished up he day with another session with Johnathan. Great driver and generous guy. It was nice that all of the drivers allowed me to be a passenger.

I learned a ton by watching. As a passenger I quickly learned the line but was able to see subtle variations from different drivers. I was also free to watch their heel-toe skills, watch the tach, etc. Thanks Robbie for letting me hitch a few rides!

Here are some pics:

Great shots Kevin! Thanks for the kinds words and great to see you again (I think the last time was in the UK on the Lotus factory tour with our dear friends Robert and Richard). Your the ultimate Lotus fanatic driving that far just to hang out and get some track seat time in the passenger seat. Anytime. See you at the next event!

I finally got around to editing my video from NJMP and putting it on our YouTube page. Here it is:
A 1:12.9 was a personal best time for me on this circuit. It was awesome driving a car that brakes and turns again... sometime soon I'm going to have to post up a comparo between driving a NASCAR Sprint Cup Car :DV: and a Lotus. :UK: Great to see you guys again and look forward to the next round back at NJMP or where ever.

Thanks again to Robert @ British Racing Group/Lotus Garage & the guys at YesterYear Motorsports for helping to solve the VVT woes that plagued me last season!
