Hi all,
Lotus Ltd, the LOONYS and working on getting help from the Finger Lakes Mercedes Benz Club, we are holding an Advanced Drivers Education Day at Watkins Glen on July 2, 2014.

Cost is $275 for the day. You can expect to get 2-3 hours of on track time.

More information on on the LOONY website LotusOwners Lotus Owners of New York. You can also register at clubregister.net.

Hope to see a bunch of you there. It will be a good time and there is no track like the Glen as far as I am concerned.

We are also considering doing a Laps and Lunch like we did last year at LOG for those that do not want to do the whole day experience.

If you need more info, you can email me at tvacc*at*lotusowners*dot*com or call me ay seven 16, eight six one, 1four one2.

Just to clarify, Iam not the organizer nor is PALS. The event is a Lotus Limited event PALS are promoting it to our members.

As previously mentioned it is a great deal.

I recently watched an F1 video from the late 70's and the track is essentially unchanged except for the addition of the bus stop chicane. I also raced there last year and the feeling of going up through the uphill esses flat in a formula car is indescribable. I am sure a similar feeling can be had in any Lotus.

I highly encourage participation in this event for anybody who regularly does this kind of event or those who just beginners.

Lotus Ltd Advanced Driving at Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen/Corning NY
July 2nd 2014
This year, Lotus Owners of New York will be hosting a Lotus, Ltd. Driver Education Day at Watkins Glen on July 2, 2014-right between Canada Day and the fourth of July. Neither one is very British, is it? The cost is a very reasonable $275(US), which includes a reception at the Corning Radisson, complements of the Corning Radisson. With only three run groups, you will get far more track time than is typical. Garage space will be available for an additional $20 on a first come first served basis.
All novices will have instructors for the full day. Intermediate drivers will have instructors at least for their early sessions, and may be signed off to drive solo at their instructor's discretion. Advanced drivers and Instructors will enjoy lots of track time. Utilized Instructors will get a 50% refund of their registration fee. If it is necessary, and an instructor is willing, to take on two students, the instructor will get a full refund of their registration fee.
Lotus, Ltd. has arranged for Tuesday night trailer and car drop off at the track. The track will be open for drop off between 6pm and 9pm. We encourage you to come to the track between 6:30pm and 8:30pm for registration and tech to ease the rush in the morning.
Spectators are welcome to the event and there is no cost. However, Watkins Glen requires you to be preregistered in order to get into the track. If you would like to come you must contact us so we can get you credentials and entrance into the event. Please email Tony at [email protected] if interested.

Laps and Lunch/Dinner at Watkins Glen
We are looking into arranging a Laps and Lunch or a Laps and Dinner if we have enough interest. The Laps and Lunch starts about 11:30 am and consists of 3 laps of the track behind a pace car, with a stop at the start finish line for pictures at the end of lap 2. Then it's off to the Glen Club for a sandwich lunch. The Laps and Dinner is almost the same but is starts about 5pm and the dinner menu is a bit more dinner oriented. Cost is usually $35 to $40 for the lunch menu, $50 to $60 for the dinner menu and that includes the 3 laps and the meal for the driver. We need at least 35 participants to meet the Glen minimums. Your car must be street registered.
Please email Tony at [email protected] if interested in the Laps and Dinner/Lunch.
Please fill out the registration form and mail it with a check to Lotus, Ltd., Box L, College Park MD 20741 (Attention Glen DE Day.) Participants will be sent a tech form to be completed by their professional mechanic and a liability release before they come to the track. You must bring the completed inspection form and the release to the track or you will not be allowed on track. We will be checking helmets for valid date and type stamps and for loose items (including battery) at the track.

Open wheel cars will NOT be allowed.

Tony,

One question that always comes up regards open cars (Sevens, Elans, M100s)

Are these allowed and what equipment do they need (roll bars or cage etc)?

Info is on the LOONY WEBSITE, but to be brief, you need a 3 or 4 point roll bar or the car certified by the manufacturer for roll over. The Elise/ Exige, some of the Benzs and Porsches qualify as well. If anyone has a particular question, email me and I will pass it on to my people.
