I'm in the process of acquiring a 59 or 60 Lotus Seven from the second owner who has owned the car since 1965. He had the original engine replaced with one from a Sprite along with it's gearbox - fortunately he retained the original engine and transmission so I'll have a nice little boat anchor. Most of my experience is with German cars (I raced a 16v GTi for 20 years and now race a Honduh Civic SI in SCCA's Improved Touring ranks). I did have a '72 Land Rover and currently have an '00 Discovery 2 so I'm keenly aware of the myriad of British "quirks".

The Seven has always been an amusing car - it's more of a go-kart in today's world of gigantic cars. The running joke is that the Seven is one of the few car that can say "Dude, your Miata is HUGE!!".
