Mario Andretti won the Indiannapolis 500 in1969 and was honored in May of 2019 at the Indianapolis 500 and the 50th anniversary of his win. The museum put 23 cars from his career in a special display. My 1979 Lotus Esprit Commemorative Edition No. 002 was put in the display along his winning Lotus Formula One Lotus that won the 1979 World Championship.
My car was the actual Presentation car to Mario for winning the 1978 Formula One World Championship in a formal ceremony with Colin Chapman before the 1979 Long Beach Grand Prix. The display at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum ran from May to November 2019.

Absolutely awesome cars & story! Mario Andretti was my childhood hero and I built the Tamiya Lotus 78 model in high school. I am curious which Lotus 79 car was at the display. I know that Duncan Dayton owns one of them & I have sat in it.

Here are a few photos of me in the Lotus Chassis No. 79-4. This was a very special day for me growing up a Mario Andretti fan, and being able to sit in the very car that he won the 1978 F1 World Championship in. The Lotus 78 & 79 revolutionized aerodynamics in both racing and eventually passenger cars with ground effects.
