I'm still relatively new to the Eldersburg/Westerminster area and decided to do some exploring Sunday. I decided to do a loop from 32 around. Here is the path I took: google maps

It was a smooth windy drive except Ivy Mill was brutal! All in all it was good short cruise. Next time, I will avoid Ivy Mill at all costs.

Do any of you have any recommendations in our area (MD, DC, Northern VA)?

TIA

I might have done a few routes in my day... You should make it out on the next tour or CTD run... Ivy Mill is a miserable road... Definitely take that off the list :no:

I started a post a few weeks ago on the topic of G-Mapping the great roads of the DC-area, but I put it in the wrong forum category so I'm not sure anyone saw it. [Anyone know how I can move it to this category so people in our region find it?]

Anyway, here is the G-Maps page I have created and it includes 4 different routes that I have been refining over time. I would love to get input from others so that I can add more routes to the page and see what missing gems are out there. Generally speaking, I define a great road / route as:

* lots of bends
* largely free of traffic
* smooth / well-paved
* and, if possible, scenic!

We have many such roads in our area. You just have to be willing to spend a little time finding them!

Interesting route from Germantown? Nearly an exact duplicate of the Spring Tour route from a from years ago which I have continued to refine ;)

Personally, I don't go near Virginia if I can help it... Usually too much traffic, way too many cops and not worth the trouble...

Bull... Yes, I forgot to credit you for helping me find some better paths to connect the dots between some of my favorite Germantown-area roads (like Reichs Ford and Thurston). But I didn't include some of the others you took us on that day last month. I am still experimenting with better ways to connect some of the best roads out there so your advice would be much appreciated.

And while I understand your complaint about traffic on the Virginia roads near the city, it certainly is not true out in Loudoun County. I encourage you to hit some of the roads I have highlighted on my big Loudoun map. And I rarely see cops on the deep country roads I have plotted out there. Give them another shot!

Actually, I've run more than a dozen variations of that route... It usually depends on how long people want to drive... I can twist you all over the place for 5-6 hours with 3-4 breaks and never hit a red light covering 3-4 counties...

Don't miss the next CTD Run, that will be about 3-4 hours of driving with a couple of breaks...

Bull... Yes, please do let me know about the next CTD run. I would be game for it, especially if you are exploring some new routes.

Looking forward to seeing your wife's beautiful California Elise at the Ferrari & Friends event this weekend!

Ross - Here's a real quick "down and dirty" for you, that you can just spur of the moment pick up and do a nice little loop with:

From your development, Take a Rt on Obrecht to White-Hall (Piney Run Park) - Left onto White hall. Quick left jug on Liberty Road, to Right on Klees Mill. Klees Mill ends at 32. Take Left on 32. To 97. Left on 97 to Barthalow Road. - Right On Barthalow to Left on Bear Branch (I love THIS road! Too bad it's so short). Left on Oak Tree, to Right on Arthur Shipley. Left on Salem Bottom (same as "Woodbine Road") & Go ahead and run that right down into Woodbine (CAREFUL crossing the RR tracks there!). You can now keep running that down, OR ...if what you were looking for was just a "quickie" - instead hit a Left on Streaker, which will bring you back to 97 (and your "neighborhood") where you can decide to return home, or, if you've got that same smile on your face as I do when I do this one ...Go right ahead and just "loop it" again! :shift: :)

This can be a good "beginner" one for you for here. How's that?

BTW, great actually meeting you on Sunday. I didn't know there was a Porsche Autocross taking place in Sykesville on Sunday either! Someone (who will remain nameless, but who's initials are TP) didn't let anyone else in on this in advance it seems, and saved all the FUN on that one for himself!! :no:

Hey - anytime you are up for a drive, you've got my cell # ...Dial it up, and if I'm available, I'm MORE THAN HAPPY to come out for a jaunt!

Oh yeah, and PS ...How'd my stage-2 sound going down 97? Could you hear it over the WOT SC whine okay? ;) Gawd, I LOVE this car! :shift:

Cheers,
-Grant

The weather was almost "too great"! ...I had my top ON and I still came back looking like a racoon-faced crispy-fried critter at the end of it! :eek:

I could use maybe just a little less sunny and HOT.

Definitely looking forward to next time again too! Bull - Looks like you'll have a few more Loti in the group too, to deal with! :D

Grant,

Car sounded awesome going down 97! It was great meeting you too. I'll definitely try out that drive. My only concern is Barthalow and cops. I heard cops hang out there but have not seen any to date.

We should definitely go cruising. I may be free Saturday and am busy Sunday with Autox in Frederick. So far I'm the only Lotus but I saw a Noble M400 signed up. :crazyeyes
