I’m beginning my search for an Elise and am curious whether modifications such as spoilers, adding a turbo, etc., take away from the true performance of the care. I’m kind of a purest, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Any advise?

Yes, I agree, avoid a turbo car. There are many well sorted aftermarket supercharged cars that will be much more reliable. I'm happy with N/A 190HP after 11+ years owning my Exige.

I personally would advise against anything that has a turbo and be very well informed about a car with a supercharger kit and what type of blower is on it as well as instalation. Unfortunately some folks will throw on rear spoilers and not consider the next guy who buys it and hack it together. The small details reflect the ownership. Hacked cars are something I've seen a lot of and reminds me of how cheap exotic car owners can be.
