The combination of 5 1/4" rear and 4" dash speakers driven by the Alpine in dash receiver (iDA-X305) with the boot mounted Alpine amp (PDX-5) sounds worse than the factory radio in my Ranger truck.
Any thoughts? I'm not looking for a lot of bass (subwoofers are for home entertainment systems in my opinion), just sound quality. What are some of the set-ups you all have gone with? I am considering Alpine speaker replacements but will they be a noticeable improvement? Hertz makes some expensive car speakers, but what are the ones in the car? Things that make you go Hmmmm.

They aren't as good as the Avis speakers, but definitely better than the Alamo speakers.

:)

Weird though, a name like 'Hertz' but they are Italian speakers. Weird.

Today I put in some cheap $50 Polk DB401 4" speakers to replace my blown fronts. I'm no audiophile, but it sounds pretty darn acceptable to me. Everything else is stock.

I use hertz speakers in my daily driver. I considered focal and numerous other brands and for me I preferred these the most. I use their Mille speakers, ml280 tweeters and ml1600.2 midbass drivers, excellent sound quality (powered by pheonix gold elite.4 amp)

I would put their stuff up against anything at their pricepoint.

Why does it sound worse? Sq isn't as good overall, less bass or what? The pdx5 is a solid amp...... I do disagree with the sub comment, it's truly the only way to realistically reproduce the frequencies under 80hz or so..... The sub doesn't have the be large, even a 6.5 in driver in the proper box can sound excellent.

I'm sporting RLS speakers, they are carbon fiber and a lot lighter!

I'd never heard of Hertz speakers. That said they get great reviews and have nothing to do with Hertz (or Avis) rental cars.

As with any speaker manufacturer, the speakers supplied to an OEM car maker are typically junk (to save money). It doesn't mean they don't make quality speakers that the OEM car maker disregarded as too expensive.

does anyone know ...what company or companies used to rent out our cars ? I think it was mostly a west coast phenomena.

I work for an electronics distributor. Hertz makes high end speakers and subs. It's an excellent company for pro competition audio. Some of the top shops around us carry the brand and are always throwing them into Lambos and whatnot. I have a set of Hertz in the front and they crank up LOUD. Focal and Arc Audio also make great 5.25" for your rears.

some of these responses...

hertz has higher end lines as well as lower priced lines of products. anything would be better than the stock speakers. probably something wrong with your setup if it sounds worse than stockers on your ranger. i would adjust the gains first on your amp.

my ranger - old '96 XLT (stands for xtra loud tunes), has a killer stereo - factory. Seriously. Blew me away first time i fired her up. Then i bought the Elise. The Elise handles better than the Ranger, in case you were wondering.

before you buy consider this.

I think I'm going with this up front here are reviews

for the back I'm going to go with these . review here. Looks like I need 2.20 inches to fit them, anyone know the depth of the rears?

I see some people putting 6.5 in the back, how? I saw someone say "to install rear infinity's which are 6 1/2 inch i cut 1/4 of the panel circularly and just filtted new clips to secure the screws " is it really that easy? because there are 6.5 pyles here. This makes the depth 2.84
