Received a 320mm Personal steering wheel with NRG quick release hub from @boostu today (thanks again), and had some time to install it before tonight’s plans. For what it’s worth, everyone’s right, a removable steering wheel makes it loads easier to get in and out of the car [emoji23]. Didn’t do a write up cause the video that GRP has on his website is more than enough, didn’t need a resistor for the airbag because you can turn that off on the GARW dash. What’s next?

I say this in every post and I’m not gonna stop now, but if you drive this on the street, it’s quite a poor idea to remove the airbag for the safety benefits in a car that barely has some to begin with, but to each their own.

I weighed my options and figured since I really only drive it once a week to work and an occasional drive here and there I’ll live with the added convenience. It’s a fiberglass car draped over an aluminum tub, anything over 30mph isn’t going to end pretty anyway (just my thought process of course)

Hope you never get in a wreck as removing the airbag is illegal if you drive the car on the road, as well as insurance will not cover anything if you get in an accident. Just hope you considered all this. To each their own. I’m not against it in anyways, just saying a lot of people don’t consider all the risks. I know of 1 personally that got in wreck and since the airbags were gone, the police report sent to the insurance company commented on the modified status of the car. Insurance didn’t pay out in that case.
Been a while since I posted here, but I’ve tried to stay busy with the Elise.
Recently installed the track pack suspension and TRD air box that I purchased from members here on the forum (thanks again guys!).
The suspension couldn’t be any more straight forward to install. But the air box took some bending on the factory bracket on the firewall (the one that holds the “dirty side” of the intake) to get it to work. The box is bigger, the filter element is bigger, and there’s no longer a flapper that’s vacuum/pressure actuated.
Did it give me any power? No clue. The throttle response feels better on my 05, but that could just be the placebo effect. All in all, I enjoy the little bit of added noise, and the butt dyno is happy with it so to me nothing else matters. Decided to go with this intake for two reasons:
1. Gets rid of the flapper and the “snorkel” from the factory intake.
2. Is a Toyota branded part so all smog checks stay relatively easy for me in California without a need to swap out intakes beforehand.
Hope everyone’s been well with Covid going strong lately! Belated merry Christmas and happy new year!

The bracket that needs some bending to get it to work. (Don’t know if this is still the case for 06+ cars):
These Inokinetic seat grommets have been sitting for a while. I was hoping to find seats for fairly cheap but had an abundance of time on my hands. Worked out the jitters to cut into the leather and pressed these in. I used clamps and gel superglue for the added security to keep them from separating. Guess I’m in the market for some 4 point harnesses now [emoji23]. Please spare me from the 5/6 point argument. Yes I know they’re safer. Yes I know the benefits. But I only do 2-4 track days a year for now X so I think 4 points will do for now. Once I’m retired I’ll go the Tillet/6 point route.
Hahahah the reason why I prefaced it. But I’m standing by anyway. Yeah I’m definitely looking for the Schroth ASM 4 points. Most everyone here tracks with the OEM seat belts, so I never understood the flack. If I was racing W2W or trying to compete in time attack then sure. For now, 4points will do
You'll find that belts actually will make you faster (versus using the OEM seat belts). I know most people don't think of it as a performance mod (most just think about the safety aspect), but being securely strapped in helps your body better feel what the car is doing and you'll drive more quickly as a result.
Because a 4-point has no ability to stay properly located on your hips instead of sliding up and crushing your organs in a crash. A factory 3 point is designed to cinch tight when the SRS is triggered. The cinching action tries to keep the lap belt located on your hips. The anti-sub belts of a 5-6 point system have a similar intent. They keep your body from sliding under the lap belt as the pressure from your shoulders and chest try to pull the lap belt up into the region of your abdomen.
