Many web pages that I would like to access from work are blocked by the network filter. Apparently there are categories that webmasters assign to their websites that get blocked by this system. Vehicles, sports, forums, proxies and many others are blocked because of these "websense" categories.

Fortunately lotustalk is "uncategorized" so it doesn't get blocked, but many of the links (including banners and photos and videos) are blocked, and quite honestly, it's very annoying.

I have tried over 100 different proxy servers to get around it and every single proxy I've tried also gets blocked.

What I need is a way to either disarm the network filter or to find an "uncategorized" proxy.

Any suggestions?

I've tried doing searches in other languages, and have clicked on the "cached page" link in the search results. The former was of no help, the latter helped a little when I just need to read the page, but often times is not adequate.

1. Easy, make your own Linux proxy server and run it at your home. Tell no one about it. If your home proxy gets a measly few hundred hits per day, it will not automatically be categorized by Websense.

2. Another option. If you are close to other businesses, just install a wireless card in your computer and see if you can pick up other networks. Then you can use the ROUTE command in the DOS Prompt to route all Internet traffic through that Interface, and all work traffic through the work interface. If the signal is faint, park your car in between your computer and the sources, and install a wireless repeater in your car running off a Power Inverter.

www.logmein.com

just remote desktop to your home computer, this is pretty simple to use and seem to be pretty secure.
Remode Desktop to home computer is one of the easier routes, but I generally do not like it because it's SLOW. With most broadband connections at home, the upload speed is much slower than download. To add to it, it is transferring graphic information.

Proxy servers is quicker or rerouting Internet traffic to another location is also faster.

i just use windows remote desktop or in a pinch vnc, i don't find them slow at all, unless you do things like transfer the background image, even played the odd game over it, of couse if you;ve got a super slow connection it'll be slow too.

proxies are easy to setup, there are a number of free ones, 3proxy tiny free proxy server for Windows, Linux, Unix: SOCKS, HTTP, FTP proxy being one, analogx.com proxy might work over non local networks, i can't remember and the programmer owns an elise as a bonus.

VPNs are also easy to setup, especially on linksys routers, those are rarely blocked by companies since a lot use VPNs, quickvpn is the client for linksys,.

in worst situations with only icmp available i use a ping proxy.

or just stop pinching your offices bandwidth and buy a tmobile data only plan for $40 a month, then bluetooth dun it.

Please be advised that normally the system admin IT guy is getting email notifications every time you are attempting to access a restricted keyword/site. Probably does not look too good.

I get notifications all the time that the UPS driver, etc, are trying to access hard core porn. Same guy that sighs every time I curse, a holy roller type.

^ typical!

A study recently came out that found workers who have free access to websites that allow them to carry on their lives while at work are more efficient and happier. I don't know if that applies to porn, maybe you could do your own study. I'll be a volunteer if you need one :D

+1 on the logmein.com idea. I use it all the time - very easy to setup & you can always find your home computer, even when you have dynamic IP.

You probably won't be able to watch videos or anything, but it's pretty responsive otherwise.

Guess I better stop trying to visit how_to_kill_an_IT_dweeb_and_get_away_with_it.com when I'm at work.

Seriously, people need to be careful when they're out looking for free WiFi. If you see a P2P network named "Free Internet Access", you might want to steer clear. Having said that, my new neighbor has an open WiFi almost close enough to be reliable. I'm a repeater away from free Internet.

They have websense at my school...
go to P E A C E F I R E and sign up for the e-mail list.
during school days (aug-june) they e-mail you a new proxy every 3 or so days.
during summer break, not as much.
