I'm planning to hand craft my own rear Euro grills from stainless sheet metal to accommodate a Larini SE dual exit exhaust. Can anyone with metal experience recommend the best type of stainless sheet and the guage?

I want to approximate the same gauge as my stock 2005 grills. I will also prime and paint before installation.

Also, do you have a good source for small quantity metal orders?

I'm not an expert metal worker, but I am patient and meticulous. I plan to bang these out in my basement workshop.

Thanks, Todd

304 should be fine, and is by far the most readily available. Stock grill looks to me like about .040-.060". I can measure when I get home if you want, but it isn't critical.

Cheap easy place to get it if you want to pay for shipping is McMaster-Carr. you can also try onlinemetals.com. Otherwise any decent fab shop or sheet metal supplier in your area should have some. You can also get various patterns of perforation depending what you like (I assume you are looking for perforated sheet and not trying to actually make your own out of normal sheet metal.)

Why do you want to use stainless? Aluminum will be cheaper, lighter, and easier to bend.

Okay, switching to aluminum... I stuck a magnet on my OEM grills and realized they are not steel.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll be using blank sheet and drilling my own pattern of holes.
