Hey guys,

I'm looking at replacing my tires and and the only option I found here in Canada are the A048 tires but I don't really like those tires for street driving since the don't last.

I was thinking at changing the size of the tires to 205/50/16 front 235/45/17 with Toyo Proxes R1R but I'm not sure that is a good idea.

Tha next option I have is to run 2 different brand of tires front and rear for ex front A048 and rear Toyo R1R.

What do you guys think?

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I think the new Dunlop ZII's are now available in those sizes. They're cheaper than Yokohamas. I have the Z1's and like them a lot but need new tires and will probably be going with the ZII's.

You are right but the ZII 195/50/16 are rated 85V...

Any other idea???

Been a big fan of the toyo R1R tires and run that combo. I run those as street and wet tires on track. People will say they squash when pushed very hard and they do but to be honest as a street tire they are great and the wet performance is amazing. Would recommend.

If you go for 205's get 205/45/16's. If you go with the 50mm sidewall the tire will be too tall and your steering will feel floaty and unresponsive. Trust me!

But they don't make them in 195/50/16 so what size do you use??? 205/50/16 front 235/45/17 rear???

Ok but what size you use for the rear to keep the car even?

Have you considered the Yokohama AD08 in 205/45-16 and 235/40-17 or 245/40-17?
I know a bunch of folks who run that tire in those sizes on LSS rims here in Europe, including myself.

Komo-tec even sells those as a more street friendly tire instead of the AO48

AD08 are not really the same kind of tire as an R1R. They wear quicker, don't evacuate water as well. I went through a set of those very quickly and didn't buy them again...

For a street tire - I just purchased a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW, 205/50 front and 235/45 rear. Wheels are LSS (6.5" front), and lowered on Nitron Singles. The front tires rub the front splash shield that covers the headlights. The rear tires rub the splash shield that covers the engine room, as well as the splash shield in front of the tire behind the door sill. Sucks. I don't want to run R888's for the street. Have heard great things about the Bridgestone Potenza RE11's, thinking to try 205/45 in front, and as much as I want to go with a wider rear, don't want any rubbing issues, and will probably stick with 225/45.

What do you all think?

Also will have the DW's for sale if anyone not lowered wants to give it a shot....

I run 205/50/16 and 245/45/17 as well as 205/45/16 and 245/40/17 (two sets of tires) with no issues with rubbing, ABS, speedo, etc, etc.

I ran two sets of rear Dunlop Z1s and never again. This last set made it 73 miles before they were down to the cords. They got warm from racing this weekend (was 75*!) and pretty much melted down, all the while handling like I was on ice. :mad:

FWIW, I tried a test where I placed the OEM rear tires on the front of my Elise, while keeping the aftermarket rears on.
So...
Front - 225-50-17
Rear - 235-50-17

This way more than the 5% difference I was told buggers up the ABS. I'm not sure where the ABS information comes from, but this did nothing weird at all....ABS was fine. YMMV

BTW....I have a set of Federal 595's that are in the exact sizes you want. They are mounted to Rota wheels that I am trying to sell. I had one buyer ask if I would separate the tires. I didn't want to initially, but since I see you are looking perhaps you would be interested? They are not 'new', but they are not too warn either, and they would be cheaper. Please PM me if you want more information. These tires are grippy!
