I like the red version, but seems like they wasted that light since the middle has all that room and there are no additional lighting.

I am working on the B/U lights for the Red version 2 and it occurred to me that there are a number of different configurations for the tails of our cars. I am working on a B/U light for mine with the rear panel delete. I hope to have that completed by the weekend. There are a number of people interested in the Red Version 2 so please tell me what your configuration is so I can work on these configurations too. It would be way too easy if everyone that wants the Red Version 2 kits had done rear panel deletes!

Have you considered a "1.5" version? By which I mean: use the red lens from type 2 on the outboard position, and use the white/silver from type 1 for the backup lights on the inboard position.

Yes, that is Very easily done by just substituting Red lenses for the outer Silver lenses on Version 1. I actually used that for about a week on my car and it works fine. What I really need to do is put out a list of all the combinations available so fellow LotusTalker's can choose their favorite combo. I was also approached with a request for the Version 1 Silver lenses with an outer ring of Red on all 4 lights. It is truly fun exploring all the options. I am still working on separate backup lights for the all Red option I just introduced. The lights I had envisioned as fitting over the license plate came in and were too large so another is on order.

Yes, but that is what makes these so unique. The infinity mirror effect is what everyone likes when they see them. I like the Red version because of the raw intensity of all 4 lights. All 4 light up with just driving lights and then all 4 go to high intensity for brake lights. On the brightest day these can be extremely bright and might help avoid a tail end hit!

I never mentioned it before but these weigh about 1/2 of the OEM lights. Great for those on a diet and for track cars. The price is right in case they get broken and have to be replaced too.

The lights came in for the backup light replacement on the Type 2 tail lights. I got a pair of 17cm COB LED lights which put out ~ 700 LM. They work very well and mount to the rear panel delete or rear panel. I also have another style being shipped which will mount to the license plate frame and be above the plate. I will post photos of that option once it comes in and I have a chance to test it. PM me if you want to talk more about the options.

These look great; I really like the aesthetic of the red, type 2. You mentioned that these are 1/2 the weight of the OEM lights. As LED's require a heatsink or a PCB with heavy copper layers, since heat diminishes LED life, is this where the reduction in weight comes from in your design?

I haven't disassembled my OEM rear lights to see how the LEDs are protected from waste heat, but some have posted premature failure of some LED's in their OEM's. I don't know if it was from insufficient heatsinking or sporadic poor soldering.

I've designed UV LED systems where you need high candela output (similar to lumens), but to achieve this the UV LED's need a large heatsink or their rated lifespan is severely diminished.

I finally got around to weighing OEM vs. mine. Each OEM light and pigtail weigh 460 gram so 4 OEM lights weigh 1840 grams. Each of my LED lights (sealed light unit, bezel, and attaching hardware) wight 210 grams and the wiring harness weighs 220 grams. So a complete set of mine weigh 1060 grams. Not quite half but significantly lighter, 1840 vs 1060.

I have been running a set in my car for 11 months now with no LED failures. The light assembly units I get are factory produced for the automotive industry and DOT approved. I do not fabricate the actual light assembly, I only source all the parts (sealed light units, bezels, wire, connectors, pins, harness wrap, and attaching hardware) required to produce the Plug-N-Play kits and I assemble the final product.

I have attached photos of a 3rd kind of light that have both a futuristic mirrored finish but also have a red ring over top of the red LEDs underneath. These were produced by a special request and are now available.

The only way to do that would be to get a black mirror tint and apply it over either a complete red or silver mirrored light assembly. The vendor does not make a black mirrored version unfortunatly. You are the second person to ask for this option so I know it would do well. Maybe I will get some tint and experiment! >:)

Thanks for the clarification on the weight difference. Being DOT approved is a plus. Will seriously consider these as an upgrade to stock. It's great you have a wide array of Mix-N-Match for a variety of preferences.

Just tint the mirrored part not the actual lens. Tinting the lens negates the brightness factor that everyone loves.

Okay, I will see if I can get some tint on Monday and prototype it. So red outer ring with a black tinted center? It may diminish the cool infinity image in the center but I can try it... :surprise:
