Being developed to increase efficiency, but why could it not also be used to increase HP? May not work in our cars since it sounds like a heavy proposition, but good idea overall since so much heat is wasted in internal combustion engines.

There's no really new technology here. It is a new application, though. Every component of this system is pretty common on a much larger scale in ships throughout the world.

As might be expected, we had a fantastic lab setup at USNA for thermodynamics and naval architecture. One area was a complete working steam engine from an older warship. It was roughly the size of a large lecture hall. Another area was the same engine, cutaway for us midshipmen to be able to walk through.
