I guess I am not the only one disappointed with these future Lotuses...

The specs posted here says each car will have a DCT? Any hope for a 3rd pedal? :confused:
I share your befuddlement about this situation. I was quite disappointed that Lotus seems to not have a plan to offer these newly announced cars (except for the future Elise) with a regular manual transmission. Isn't Lotus all about driver involvement?? What the hell happened?? :confused: I have driven the "flappy paddle" and I have to say that it is no where close to as satisfying as driving a regular manual. I dunno, I guess I am a Luddite. Also, I am not too impressed with the styling direction that Lotus is heading towards. Seems a bit contrived to me and not quite original. The cars also seemed to have abandoned the "for speed, add lightness" motto of Chapman. I guess the last of the "old-school" Lotus is the Evora. With that in mind, the Lotus Evora S is going to be my current Lotus of choice.

Just my 2 Yen.

If you don't like it write/call/email Lotus and complain. None of these are production cars so there is still time for changes to be made. Preaching to the choir won't do anything.

Come on guys look at the sports cars today on the market. They are all going that route. It is simply more efficient, faster than a regular manual transmission. I drive the 360 modena with the F1 transmission and it is fun to drive too beleive me.

Every modern sport car and racing car have those paddles shifter today.

-Every formula cars
-Every Ferrari
-Every Lamborghini
-Nissan GTR
-Lancer Evo
-VW Golf GTI
-More and more

And all those cars beat the Lotus on track in any magazine contest that I've seen so far.

So I dont see why it is a surprise for you that Lotus plan to equip their 2014-2015 models with that technology.

What's wrong with that ? Change and evolution is part of the automotive industry.

Plus a 7 speed transmissions means that we will have to shift gear even more often = even more driving pleasure !

I've driven a DSG Audi TT and it wasn't particularly thrilling. I'll take a :shift: on a country road anyday, unless I was commuting in LA's freeway parking lots; in which case I wouldn't want a to be in a mid engine exotic no matter how cool it looks.

I will never part with over $40K on a car with any kind of automatic transmission. And that less-than-$40K car will be for my wife.

I don't care about the others, but that Elan needs to come with a MT. Since it's using the V6, that shouldn't be a problem. The Toyota V8, unfortunately, doesn't have a manual, so I'm not sure Lotus has much of a choice in the matter. A Lotus-designed M/T is probably just a bad idea. And only around 10% of Ferraris sold with them anyway.

But for us proles, with our sub $150K cars, they are a necessity. Write Lotus. Save the Elan from an evil fate.

You will be lucky to be able to drive your own car in the future let alone decide when to shift. If you don't have government enforced bike lanes taking commuter space in cities, you'll get either forced high speed rail or Google-developed government-controlled managed traffic. Self-directed driving? Sounds like criminal intent to me. All hail La Hood!
