Hello all, new to this site. My wife and I inherited what we were told was a 1968 series 1 lotus europa. My father in law was in the middle of restoring this car when he passed. Just wondering if there are any indications on the car to really tell us what we have?

Really new to this so not sure what we are dealing with, but I've never seen anything like it.

Much appreciated, I will do both. The car has the engine running but is otherwise stripped down , is there something in particular i should take a picture of?

Anything from the interior, especially the bulkhead.

You say it's stripped down. Do the windows go down? Windows didn't go down in the S1s. In the 1A they were fixed. 1B removable but didnt' wind down

Early 1's had a metal dash. All had fixed seats with adjustable pedals.

Also, S1's are bonded to the chassis. If you've go the body off, it's likely not an S1...more than a notion to get the body off.

What is the year on the VIN plate?

Does it have a badge that says EUROPE instead of Europa?
