Has anyone charged their Lotus using the OBDII port?

I was using a Porsche charger that connected to the 12v accessory outlet inside the car until it stopped working after a power surge. I got a new charger that you can get an OBDII connector ( GC012 | Genius Battery Chargers ) for. That seems like it'd be even more convenient than using the 12v accessory outlet. But, I've never heard of anyone charging over that port.

That's scary! If you get a malfunction in the charger you could fry your ecu!
At the speed of light, any voltage surge will be spread equally across all +12V wires in the car. Doesn't matter where you hook the charger for this to happen... I didn't realize the OBDII port included a connection for non IGN switched power, but if it does not this charger will not charge the battery through said port..

Why not just get a tender and route the wire out through the hole in the clam to the tip of the rear plates.

Seems like it would be no different than using the "cigarette lighter". I wouldn't see any risk of ecu damage unless you somehow managed to plug it in upside down or something.
