Hi,

Here are some pics of a 2001 Elise that I've seen for sale. It looks a little unusual to me, so I was wondering if anyone knows more about it?

The bolt-on cover over the side air intakes I could understand as an add-on by a previous owner. What I don't understand is why the vents at the rear of the car, along the outside edges of the rear lights, are missing. Was this an interim car maybe? One of the first S2s or something, produced before Lotus realised they needed vents in this position?

Any advice gratefully received!

The fins on the rear are purely cosmetic and the owner probably had them filled in (replacement clam?). Those wheels look like they've been curbed pretty bad though.

That is a very early S2 with the old style roof. It also has Euro Exige wheels (which have the wrong offset at the rear for a Rover powered car).

That model was never exported to the US and as such you will find much more info about such a car at SELOC | Lotus Enthusiasts Club - the UK based site.

Thank you!

Hi folks,

Thanks for your swift replies. Replacement clam... kerbed alloys... wrong offset... It's not looking quite such a bargain now! :)
