Hi

Well i`m about getting due for my first oil change ( for me, not the car ) and i`m thinking if I go to the local parts store and ask for a lotus elise oil filter there just going to look at me like i`m from another planet. Can I just get a stock celica GT-S filter? is the clearance and everything good?

Whats a good filter and oil that I can get in eastern Canada...no PEP boys or anything like that. My best bet would be canadian tire, UAP NAPA, or Toyota.

and getting a stock one shipped in from Scotti`s would end up expencive on shipping for just a filter.

thanks for the help.

PS I did search, and came up with nothing

Look in the uberpost under the oil change section.

Click the routine mantenance section, there is a whole section on filter discussions.

The car has been around here since 05, this is a question asked and discussed to death.

Use Google to do your search. It is better than built in search about 75% of the time. This is the appropriate search string:

AutoZone carries the K&N HP-2009, which works on the Elise.

Finding the OEM Toyota filter is tough. I found a Toyota dealer who special ordered them for me. I bought a dozen at about $7 each.

Dude e-mail me next time. I can get them for under $5 and usually have a few in my Lotus parts closet. I even use them on my gfs Rav4 since they are cheaper and like 30% larger then the factory one for that car :p I have the largest wholesale discount available with my local Toyota dealer so just let me know next time...

As for the right brand of oil, there are many opinions on this forum. But do stick with 5W40 synthetic, as recommended by Lotus.

I've used the K&N 2009 filter and Mobile 1 "Turbo Diesel" 5W40 oil.

Thanks, Bane.

I bought my filters over 2 years ago. I just changed oil today and still have 9 filters left. It will be several years before I need more.

BTW, there's a distributor here in Mesa that sells Havoline 5W40 synthetic oil.

That turbo diesel modile 1 is the onle 5W40 I can find...The only thing is, i`m not shure if I like the idea of running diesel oil in a sports motor :crazyeyes....anyone else running this stuff? can it hurt anything?

As long as the oil meets or exceeds Lotus specs, as this oil does, it's fine, most of us use it.

Besides being the proper spec, Mobil's Turbo Diesel oil may be the better oil to use. Current specifications for oil ("SM" I believe) have reduced the level of an additive in the oil. On cars that have "sliding lifters" (like the Elise) instead of "roller lifters", this lack of the additive may cause problems. The Mobil 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel oil is rate as "SL" - the previous oil standard, and it still has the additive.

Bottom line is that the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel oil is probably better for the Elise's engine than other 5W40 oils rated as "SM".

I'm a distributor for Redline oil also. I use their 5W-40 "street" formula in my Elise. I have several cases of it in my office if you want some... unfortunately it's not as cheap as the Havoline or the Mobil truck oil.

Toyota dealer parts counter. They're really cheap... I think they were about 20 cents each. They also fit my Land Cruiser and my son's Nissan.
