maxvelocity came up with a good idea.

There are a lot of us 'Old Timers' out there searching for others. This is the thread to find our 'lost sheep'.... :sheep:

There are no limits to anyone who owns an Esprit however this thread is designated toward owners of 10 + years. The people who the love the Marque for what it is and are resilient to what these hand built cars can throw at us.

I have found the 'Holy Grail' :UK:

Does anyone know what happened to Gordon Davis aka Gordonie. He was a good friend of ours from LA and used to own a customized V8 known as Mellow Yellow. All we know is some sort of disability forced him to give up driving the Esprit. Is he OK and still around? his car sold a while ago but have not heard of it in some time.

Cal,

Someone in Canada has this car. I spoke with 'Gordine' a long time ago and I have no other information to pass.

Warning... 'Do Not Lick This Car' sticker.

Sorry, I do not know the gal ended up.

Maxvelocity,

The last time I heard from Gordonie was back in '08. I was on vacation with my girlfriend in Las Vegas when he called me on my cellphone. I recall him telling me that he was very sick at the time and that he was selling his Esprit. That was the last time I ever spoke with him. Forgot what he had, but it did not sound good. Hoping he is okay, but am fearing the worst. Interesting coincidence that you mentioned him, I saw a Lotus watch that he gave some of us at a WCLM many years ago and had been just thinking about him. Great guy with a ton of Lotus passion.

Here's a link to his page:

Speaking of old timers...I was like the 32nd posting on the original Onelist's Turbo Esprit List when it was first started. Gawd, I feel old!!! :)

That's where I first met Ed Young, Atwell, Steve Brightman, and many others on a 'wing' thread. Time sure flies!

2008 is around the last I heard from Gordonie. It must have been a pretty serious illness to give up his Esprit. I last saw his car on consignment by a dealer near Chicago. After that nothing. Is Ed Gomes around? He had a 89 red SE, then a silver V8, then went to an white S4s. He was around the Fresno area

BTW I'm not sure but the turbo list might be a legacy site and not really maintained often. I have heard of people waiting weeks for approval to join the list with no response or confirmation so they can't get on. Not really sure if Brian took a vacation or is on hiatus or who the current admin of the site is. I still get stuff from the list via email so it is still working

Hey Calvin,

Nice to see you posting and back in an Esprit again. You were one of the first Lotus people I met when I bought my first S4s in Minneapolis almost 11 years ago. You, along with the rest of the LOON guys gave me a glorious welcome into Lotus ownership that I will always remember.

I for one, have missed your helpful posts along the way and it's good to have you back!

Cheers,
Jim

Ok, I guess its time to come clean, I'm 'old' -eek- like Roy I have been around since the old 'one list' days before it morphed into yahoo groups. I am a member of so many Lotus forums I frequently forget to log on to some of them rotfl . I have not been without an Esprit in the garage for over 23 years (holy crap! I just counted that!) and yet still learn something I didn't know every day from great forums such as this. Still waiting for Tim to write the 'Tim's Bits' book on the Esprit, sure to be a 'must have' for the toolbox (hope it comes in the same material as the workshop manuals, much easier to clean :D

Jim,
I remember your 1st S4s and your entrance into the Lotus world You the southern most LOON. I have been laying back watching everyone's posts for a long time and I know you have become one of the go to guys when a question comes up. A lot of people have gotten very good at what they do.

I'm usually content just reading these days. I have a friend visiting LA on new years and could not send a PM to Lotus people in LA till I had the required 10 posts on this site. LOL

My friends trip to LA made me think of Gordonie.

Oh yeah you wanted to see a pic of the car

I bought my red 1994 S4 in late 1999 and joined Onelist. Got a lot of good advice back then. I bought my 2001 V8 in May of 2003. I remember going to the red carpet premier of the Gumball 3000 movie with Gordonie in Hollywood. IMDB says that it came out in late 2003 in the UK but here I'm not sure. Seems not that long ago but time is flying.

Well... I guess I can add my name to the list. My first interaction with Jim Knowles was when I was a regular on the Turbo Esprit List. He negotiated the group buy of the Raid steering hubs. I would say that my steering wheel upgrade was probably one of the best additions I did to my Esprit to date.

I can still remember being in the Lotus position, doing the install in Atwell's garage.

I have had my S4s for 10 years now...but with the Esprit up for sale, my long time running status may go at the waist side. Nonetheless, I am still a Lotus Nut.

I bought my first Lotus 11 years ago, a 78 S2 that I reluctantly sold to a gentlemen in Canada. My Construction business failed in 2008 and had to sell the toys. I would love to buy it back but have not been able to find it.

VIN 78050799H

About three years ago I saw it on ebay but the auction had ended. I do not know if it came back to the states or stayed up North.

Dom,
I remember when you 1st started posting. From NJ area it was you , Atwell and Joe. I was looking at the bottom of your post with the list of items in your car. You know there will come a time when only a few will even know what a Micklewright Exhaust is LOL. I'm just limping along with my meager Lotus budget otherwise I would have bought your car. You have managed to keep the S4s during some of the worst economic times. You will be back when the opportunity arises. For myself I did not think I would be back with this SE at this time. Just minding my own business when the opportunity arose. Next thing you know its in my garage.

Seeing so many old friends and familiar names here...even Michael Garibay...WOW!!! Such a great thread! Warms the heart to hear that many of us are still around and still have the passion so many years later.

Great pic of your midnight blue '91 SE, Cal! No, I haven't seen a post from Ed Gomes in quite some time...not sure what happened to him. I so agree about Gordonie...he would just as soon have cut off his left arm than to have sold his Esprit. The fact that he sold it made me feel that it must have been quite serious indeed. :(

Many of those missing people were on my Bay Area Esprit Group forum as well, which I started back in June of '01. I organized some amazing local events in the SF Bay Area back then like the Lombard Street Run (filling up the crookedest street with almost a dozen Esprits) and the Stinson Beach/Basic Instinct Run driving across the GG Bridge up Hwy 1 to Stinson with about fifteen to sixteen Esprits. Especially memorable was a north meets south event where BAEG members drove down and Club Lotus LA members drove up and we met in the middle to spend the night at the Madonna Inn (with themed rooms) in San Luis Obispo. The natives still sing folk songs about our exploits...the wild times and drunken debauchery during our two club dinner there. :) Thanks to some great new enthusiastic members, we have been seeing a lot more posts there and I have been trying to bring the group back to it's former greatness. As always, life and family has been an impediment.

Along the way, we also lost a truly great guy who had a ton of Lotus and track day passion, Jean-Claude (JC) Gauthier. Old tiimers will remember him as having a yellow S4s and then a yellow V8 while on the forum back then. I think of him often and am still in shock that he is gone. :(

Thanks Robert...had a few setbacks recently due to an especially difficult year with my elderly father who moved in with us and has alzheimer's/dementia, but thanks to the help of a really good friend (heaven-sent), the engine is pretty much done and with a little luck hope to get it back in the car in time for spring.

Anyway, Happy Sunday, all!!!!

Back in 1995 I got the first of my Esprits, I was on Onelist as well as the original Lotus Mailing List in 95 or so with my AOL E-mail name of [email protected] … I guess it could now be JPS No 047, eighteen years later.

1977 Esprit S1, last US white gelcoat car

EDIT: Picture in the post above mine ^ ^ ^ is beyond cool. ^^^
